RX 7600 vs GTX 1660 Ti vs GTX 1060 vs RX 580 - Time to Upgrade?

According to the Steam Hardware Survey, 5% of you gamers are still using a GTX 1060, which roughly equates to 6.6 million cards in use. 2.25% use a 1660 TI, or around 3 million, and around 1%, or 1.5 million use an RX 580. That is a lot of gamers using six or seven year old GPUs, and AMD’s RX 7600 looks like a mighty promising option that might make it worth an upgrade. Let’s test them and find out! Now seeing as 64.5% of gamers on Steam still use a 1080p monitor, I’ll be testing at 1080p here - although since 1440p monitors are getting pretty common, and cheap, I’ve also run the benchmarks at 1440p.

honestly depends what you are looking for. you can get a 580 used for £50 and i only swapped out my 580 for a 3090 8 months ago and it was still holding up decently tbf

I still play on my 1060 6GB laptop everyday, on 1440p. And my desktop has a 1660 super (close to ti). Glad to see the longer I hold out, the better gains I'll get!

i'd recommend the RX 6700 10GB instead for those upgrading from an RX 580 and GTX 1060 since you actually get more VRAM and the same performance as the RX 7600 (6700 is just $10 more in the USA).

It is time to upgrade but not to the RX 7600. The RX 7600 is ~$279 depending on where you purchase but for just $50 more at $329 the RX 6700 XT and RX 6750 XT blow this card out of the water in performance at 1080p and 1440p. The 3060 Ti is also on sale for the same price as the RX 7600 and is a better comparison for it.

If neither of these options are appealing then wait for 4th quarter and the RX 7700 XT and RX 7800 XT hit the market. This card isnt worth at the moment for anything other than just a cheap card that does AV1 encoding. Wait until July and the price drops. I am commenting as someone who has an RX 580 and just placed an amazon order for a MSI 6750 XT for the price stated above.

What CPU did you use? And did you use pcie 3.0? The gpu only has 8 lanes and old motherboards only support pcie 3. which means it could hurt performance in terms of upgrading

Nice comparison. I don't know why there's been so much antipathy towards the 7600, it seems a good value card.

BTW, What's your testing methology? What cpu & ram are you using?

Still limping a 1060 3GB. :/ ... was going to find a good deal on a 6700/xt but the 7600 is compelling. I'll easily wait for a month or three for a potential price fallout and the 4060 release reviews. Maybe a 7600xt or 7700/xt? Definitely interested in a PCIe x16 card though.

i just did an inflation calculator and $200 in 2017 is exactly $250 then i started opening videos like this. but then, that's five years we only get double the perf of the rx 580

The RX 7600 will be a great card in the long run. Will it be as great a value as the RX 6600? I'm not really sure but the RX 6600 did start at a much higher MSRP so the RX 7600 does have a pretty decent chance. Time will tell.
