A-levels: Students warned to expect lower grades

Thousands of teenagers across the UK will soon find out their A-level grades, however many are being warned those results could be lower than expected.

It comes after experts said teachers developed a "taste for awarding top grades" in some subjects during the COVID pandemic which markers will be "reluctant to relinquish".

How on earth can exam results be known in advance?

This is down to a system that couldn’t provide adequate at-home education during Covid not students inability to manage alone.

Foreign students bring in a lot more money to UK universities, so maybe the UK exam boards are being advised to make more places available for them by keeping A Level results lower.

Telling students to expect lower grades? Hang on, is this before they have taken the exams and before they are graded?
Isn't that totally illegal?

this is another generation who will leave the UK after graduating if they treat them like this.

"It does seem a little unfair because others years have had an easier time". He seems to misunderstand is all that matters is his grade compared to his peer group. If he gets DDD and the grade spread is CCC-EEE, it's no meaningful difference from getting BBB whilst the grade spread is AAA-CCC.
Now, if it truly is inter-generational fairness he believes in then I would have more respect if he was asking to be graded compared to the1960s, 1970s and 1980s students without the aid of teaching assistants, educational resources on the internet and a single text book and really quite demanding and rigorous examinations where *everything* had to be remembered for the exam day. That was not a perfect system by any means but to use the word "unfair" is to know nothing about what has gone before.

Covid shouldn't have stopped him from going-to-the-books for Christ's sake! Studying law isn't the same as a gas engineers apprenticeship, the latter of which can not be studied at home.

So basically anyone who got results after 2021 got to do no exams yet get better results. OK.

I received my A level results in 1993, in the days when only the very brightest students went on to Uni. To get an A was an exception. If 45% of students got A or A* last year, that really devalues the hard work and talent of the genuinely clever. For the record, I didn't get As and went through clearing to study at Uni. I feel sorry for students today as they are being peddled the mistaken belief that a degree is for them, at a huge financial cost too!!!

Teachers are doing favouritism and often taking revenge from students too.

The grades of "A" would barely be a "D" back in the 80's /
