Nikon J1 10mm Lens Review

Thinking of buy a Nikon 1 V1. Can you zoom in at all with the 10mm lense? or is there no zoom with it?. Sorry, amateur question. I was just thinking about getting the camera with the 10mm so that it is pocket sized then.

Yeah I think the Nikon 1 is on the limits of pocket size and maybe too big. I just found a Nikon 1 J2 (which I never heard of/knew about until yesterday) for a cheap price. The J2 come with a 11-27.5mm lens so its about the same size as the 10mm one but has zoom. Im going to have to check this camera out within the next couple of days.

I just really dislike not having a viewfinder :( I've used/had cameras without one before and the screen is a nightmare to see outside in the sun. I'm really struggling to find a camera with one and it does look like I may have to get one without. The new Lumix LF1 is the only one I've found. Thanks for your help.

Great review. How dramatic is the difference from the 10-30mm to this 10mm wide angle? Is it an absolute must buy? I've had the camera for about a year and really the only gripe I've had is that 30mm isnt enough zoom for me. Granted I had just bought the 30-110mm today but as far as not being able to capture everything, it hasnt been a problem.

I've had the J1 for a year and it has treated me well. The screen hasnt caused me any huge glare problems that most screens these days do anyways, but it does exceptionally well. Maybe its because I am use to how screens are but the screen is bright enough to see in the harsh sunny days. You definitely cant go wrong with the J1 considering you can get it for less then $300 on ebay, refurbished with the 10-30 lens. Have you tested it out at Target at all?

Nope, no zoom. Its just a wide angle lens. Why not get the J1? Looks alot better even tho it has no view finder. Its also more portable and comes with it's own flash.

Well if you want something pocketable, I dont know if the J1 will be pocketable, even with the 10mm lens. Its pretty thick, but I could be wrong. The only way I was able to make the J1 portable is by using the long neck strap. Only instead of using it around the neck like a tourist, I would go around my shoulder and use it like a sling and have the camera on my side.

What is the video angle on the 10mm lens? Looking for something close to fisheye for my J1...

I'm looking to buy a camera new week so I will have a look in shops then and try some out. The only problem is that I'm looking for something pocket sized and the J1 with the lens may be too big. Will check it out, thanks.

what is the difference betn using a prime lens of 10mm and shooting at 10mm of 10-30mm(kit lens) ?

Next time, you could at least take off the front and rear lens caps! We want to see what the lens looks like, not just to hear you talk.
