Another downside of the 10980XE: HEDT vs Mainstream boards, which HEDT boards will cost you WAY more than the AMD Mainstream board. Which is also WHY there were more PCI-E lanes, and available memory support as well as quad channel support, because you spend WAY more on the boards, even though the processor price is equivalent on paper

Without concerning the wattage and have a custom waterloop, 10980xe can be overclocked around 4, 7-4, 8Ghz all cores (some even can achieve 5 ghz all cores), it will perform similiar to 5950x ... don't get me wrong here I too like extreme cpu, but intel sure need drastically new product to compete AMD

I would say that overclocking the 10980xe may be more fun than the 5950x (though i never personally handled either). Something about intel motherboard bios just being fun to tweak settings i dunno. Amd board settings just seem more sketch.

My main take away is that you can't trust intel to fulfill their warranty. The fact that they tried to offer you a cpu half the performance of your old one is completely ridiculous and unacceptable to me. If a non enthusiast were to purchase that extra warranty and then break it they might not know how much worse the 9900x would have been. I know non enthusiasts that have bought the extreme warranty before even when they definitely wouldn't have needed it so this is a real possibility.

You can probably overclock the 10980XE more than 5950X and make them closer when comparing OC to OC but it's power consumption would be astronomical about 600W just for the CPU, where you can't really cool more than about 240W from a two CCX Ryzen.

Just look at the GPU utilization in CW and TR. Quite the drop on the 10980XE, which explains the jump. It's a CPU bottleneck due to IPC. Still, and interesting comparison.

Nah, I appreciate the comparison. Also as others pointed out if you throw power, temp, etc. out the window you can get similar performance overclocking that CPU.The previous gen chips 7980xe was a better overclocker IMHO. From what I remember when its successors were released people were disappointed because they ran hotter.

The R9 3950X bests the i9 10980XE also and it's much cheaper and available. With an X570 board you have the option of upgrading later to a 5950X when supply gets back to normality.

I love your videos man. I know you know this, but I just want to make it clear for viewers who might not know this: This specific processor and the whole platform it is built on actually is better compared against Threadripper than Ryzen, even if the 5950x has a ton of cores and great IPC. Some might say that 3rd generation Threadripper might kick it's butt even harder, but the kinds of workloads where professional platforms have the advantage are very different from gaming. It's like racing a pocket bike against a dump truck. :D
