I lived in the small town flagstaff. Our house was set on fire and we know who did it. The house didn't burn down we put it out almost immediately. They definitely wanted us to die though because there was gasoline all throughout the house. Screw our old neighbor, Richard.

Not a town story but he never got caught: my grandad when he was in the SAS once climbed a 20ft monument (looks like a giant pillar in the middle of town) and placed a ceramic toilet at the top of it, he did it without any climbing equipment and they had to get a crane thing to get it down 😂

There was a body of a man that was hung then dumped in a quarry just outside of the town where I went to school according to the story I heard, nobody knew who he was, why he had been killed, or who his killer was. Nothing shows up when you look for it online either.

My Godmother's mom died in their house.
People said that she died because she collapsed and no one was in the house. My godmother blamed my 2nd cousin because she's the one who found her on the floor.
But the thing is, the mother called out for help. My 2nd cousin just happened to be passing by (many people witnessed)
But the mom looked bruised and battered.
No one really knew what happened. We know my 2nd cousin is innocent. But we still don't know what really happened and what killed the mother.

Maybe not the weirdest but it bothers me. In the 1980s a young woman, Patty, went shopping, bought an expensive fur coat, went home, started cooking dinner, and then disappeared. Her landlord checked on her and saw dinner burning on the stove but Patty was gone. No clues were ever found, no forced entry, no suspects, nothing. Her fur coat was still in the closet with tags on and her car was in the driveway. A few years later a female skeleton was found, but it was not Patty. Over 30 years later no one knows where she went or what happened that day. The lack of evidence is so frustrating.

I don’t live in a town, but a smaller city in Canada. In 2014, a aboriginal teen by the name of Tina Fontaine was found wrapped in plastic, a blanket, and weighted down was found in the river. Her body being found caused an outcry by activists, as she is now one of the many aboriginal women and girls who have gone missing/been murdered. (It’s a serious problem in Canada)

They did make an arrest in her murder, but due to a lack of evidence the guy was acquitted. And her case remains unsolved.

The most disgusting thing about this, is this 15 year old girl came into contact with police, and child welfare officials numerous times, and no one thought to get her back to her family.

An old high school teacher of mine is a suspect for the murder of her step son decades ago. The boy used to be friends with my older brothers. He was found in pieces in the dishwasher. What was really weird was all of his clothes he was wearing were folded neatly on the kitchen counter. No one knows who did it and I’m not sure if the case is even still open but the fact that she was my teacher for a whole school year was wild and something is definitely off about her. There would be times where she would just not grade our papers and pass us.

I think the weirdest mystery in my town is this. Someone gets burglarized. They have up cameras and an arrest is made. Instead of hating the thief, they hate the person who called the police to report their stolen property.

Not exactly unsolved- seems a lot of people know but no one in positions of authority cared. When I was in middle school, I was in 8th grade and a 6th grade girl had, at 11 years old, became pregnant, giving birth at age 12. Her sister, a year older than me, said for her to tell people an elderly neighbor had SA-ed her and she got pregnant by him. The real story, later verified when the old man's DNA not only didn't match, but the kid's was shown to have more than the 50% relation typical of a child with their parent, with the mother. Meaning the mother and the baby's father must be closely related. It was, in fact, her older brother who was 14 or 15 when he and his sister had been watching some "adult entertainment" they'd found, belonging to their father, and ended up having sex.

As if all that wasn't bad enough, between the time she was born and when she was 4½, the baby had been hospitalized on several occasions after "accidentally" ingesting some of her grandmother's strong opiate pain killers. In truth, her own mother, who was 12-16 at the times it happened, had knowingly forced the baby to consume it while still claiming the baby got into her mother's pain meds "by accident". Because of the combination of already having medical issues as a result of the inbreeding and the damage suffered by the child's liver and kidneys during all of those so-called "accidental poisonings", the little girl succumbed to one final forcible overdose by her mother when she was just a little more than 4½.

Adding insult to injury, just a few short years after the baby was dead and buried, the mother got pregnant again (this time by a bf, not her brother) and took to social media to post all about how she "couldn't wait to have her baby girl". Since the first child's death, she's acted like that baby never existed. It was a sad and messed up life, but it wasn't the baby's fault how she wound up in this world and it still bothers tf outta me that everyone knows what happened but they've all moved on with their idyllic lives, just like the mother, as though the girl never even existed to begin with.

Not a small town story but a family story. We have a running theory that my grandfather's mother on my moms side burnt down her house and thus killing her kid for the insurance money

I live in a small town where since 1945 there have been around 4 murders. One happened in 1945 and was never resolved. A man returning from a racetrack by train was seen running, as IF he was being chased. That was the last time anyone saw him alive. 6 years later his torso was found by the shore of the nearest lake. No head, arms and legs was ever found, and it was clear someone butchered his body after death. Never solved.

December 1968 to November 1975-a series of arson fires that included a three story junior high building and a mansion. Most of the fires were in a three block area and to this day, nearly 50 years later, those city blocks are empty. I believe it was a volunteer firefighter because when the FD would arrive these houses were just a big fire ball. Nothing to do except dump water on them. The mansion, which was the final fire, had to have multiple points of ignition because the mansion was on a busy street (fire was called in at 11 PM) and the three generations in the mansion were all conveniently out of town that night at the same event (and they never agreed on anything).

We have the “cowboy hat car squatter” he somehow sneaks in peoples cars and sleeps in there every night and has been getting away with it for like a year now. He stole our fucking security camera twice. Nobody can catch him for some odd reason, but once the neighbors saw him. He wears a cowboy hat and nobody can catch him til it’s too late and nobody has seen him clearly enough to see his face. He also hasn’t physically attacked or threatened anyone he’s a huge nuisance and damages peoples property tho. Every time we hear a car alarm go off everyone is like “he’s here it’s the car squatter!” But when anyone gets there he’s nowhere to be seen, and shits been stolen out of their cars. As to why and how on earth this man manages to actually sleep in peoples cars every night we don’t know, but I think he gets into cars that people are dumb enough to leave in their driveway unlocked.

I can just imagine some random person walking onto the golf course in the middle of the night, walk up to the hole, pull down their pants, take a shit, pull up their pants, and walk away.

There's been a serial killer in the myrtle beach area for a long time ( I don't guess it's been solved) but the cops were finding girls in putt putt type mini golf ponds. I remember them draining ponds and hearing about bodies, but never seen anything on the news. I think there's alot kept quiet in tourism related towns

Not really a small town but there was someone dumping their garbage bags on the side of the road, a few days before the garbage collectors would come. Stray dogs would arrive first and rip out the delicate plastic and spill the trash into the surroundings. Straws, packaging and diapers everywhere. The neighbors all over were complaining from the trash in their property + the things their dogs might bring home. So everyone including my mom complained to the local authorities to find the person/s doing it. They've investigated for a few months. I don't what happened to them but I think they might have caught on to the issue to finally stop what they were doing.

The place I live isn’t small, but it’s small enough. There was a woman who stabbed her kids in a gas station bathroom in 2007. They were 1 and 3 years old. She was begging for mental help for a while before it happened and nobody helped her. A little girl went missing from that same gas station in 1990 or 1991 and hasn’t been seen since. I can’t remember her name but this happened in Augusta, GA. I live right down the street from that gas station, too.
