So now that you know that your table is racking the balls, in 9 ball, on a angle. Must mean all these videos of yours are useless. For those who dont know, ,Dr D found out in a later video, , that the 9 ball rack in all his videos are racked on a angle, ,accidentally. And the table has divots where all the balls sit, , so it is racked the same each time.
And it allows the wing ball to go in the pocket on our left side. Wing ball wont go if broken from the other side. The OH SHIT moment was when he was trrying to figure out if Shane was cheating in Feb 2018 at DCC. He has video out there now showing how this rack is crooked!! oops!
Guess it is time to go back and re do everything about 9 ball on this table. And apologize to all your viewers.

I remember reading an article in "Pool & Billiard" magazine back in the day. Deuel was soft breaking at a tourney and making balls every time. Earl Strickland was quoted and in a tizzy fit, although normal for Earl. At the time no one was giving detailed explanation for what he was doing. Early 2001 I think.

Very tempting to use this for 9 ball tourneys at my local pool hall...

Corey Deuel actually did this very same thing in a competition!!! I was surprised that this opponent said nothing. Even the commentators noticed it.

there is a rule of "legal" Brake, which means three balls should pass the head string, besides in the Europe 9 ball is on the spot so there is no wing ball for you. still it is a good video because you should be aware why there are the brake rules that made the game more competitive.

You could easily hustle with this. Change the wing ball with the 3 and alternate the combo. Knowledge is power.

DrDave, thanks for making this a more known topic. I've been growling about it for years .. it's an exploit or the younger folks might call it a 'hack'. Unethical is too kind of a word. Just my 2cents. ;)

Would it be considered unethical to change my break style based on gaps and patterns in the rack if my opponent is racking and I’m breaking

I was wondering is it legal to put the 123 in front 8 on the wing and 67 in the bottom corner slots if you break the balls hard ..But they are being racked the same way every game would that be pattern racking ??

A little thing about pattern racking, here in Indonesia the higher level players and tournaments always rack the 7 and 8 ball behind the 1 ball. It is even racked that way by the referee. What is your take on this?

The APA rule book does not specifically forbid pattern racking, nor does the APA use the 3 point rule as typically defined. Most APA players that I've met/played against frown upon pattern racking, though, and I was guilty of doing so, following my mikd OCD tendencies. Once pointed out to me, I immediately changed how I rack the balls to be ethical in nature and design. On the 3 point rule, the APA uses what is called the 4 ball rule. In this rule, for balls must contact the rails on the break, unless a ball is pocketed.

and there is a reason why I always set up position of balls for my opponents ... 2 and 3 always behind the 9 ball

IMO, complaining about the way Deuel breaks or the soft break in general is no different than bar players calling defense cheating. Deuel has spent more time than anyone in history studying the break and he's enjoying the fruits of his labor. Regarding Deuel's pattern racking specifically, I think at this point, he's memorized every combination of the rack and couldn't possibly put then in a configuration that he is not familiar with. There are certainly tournaments where maybe he feels that the rules don't spell out "no pattern racking" so he blatantly sets the balls up the same every time, but in other he switches it up to put almost any combination or 2-3-4-5 behind the 1. Some may say this is still pattern racking, but that's more than half the available balls, and given his knowledge of the rack, you couldn't possibly expect his to intentionally set the balls in a way that he knows puts him at a disadvantage.

I didn’t even know it was a rule and to keep my racks legit, I never have the 2 and 3 next to eachother after the head ball
