The US has 10 times the people on less land than Canada. So housing should be cheaper here, right?

Well check out Canada vs US housing costs after 8 years of Trudeau.

The biggest financial mistake I ever made was not buying a house before the great recession back in 08. I was 13 years old

For most people in Canada, being financially responsible means either living at home forever or accepting a low standard of living. It's sad.

At $164, 900 for a nice house there would be no need for government programs on affordable housing, anyone with a job could afford it.

People used to build houses absolutely everywhere for decades until basically all of the land we can allocate to housing has been used up and now building even just a small mixed-use apartment building or townhouses is seen as problematic for the "neighborhood character" and is basically illegal. The hypocrisy is absurd.

"If he was going to solve the problem, he would have by now"
Is the perfect description of the entire existence of politicians.
If they actually worked, they would work themselves out of existence.

My parents bought their first house in 1993 in Williams Lake, British Columbia - $66, 000. My dad was a truck driver making over 50k/year my mom was stay at home running a daycare

In 1999 they bought a brand-new house in Alberta for $130, 000
In 2004 they bought a family home in Kamloops, British Columbia for $250, 000
In 2019 they sold that same exact family home for $700, 000
They bought a mansion in Kelowna B.C for 1.1 Million
In 2023 that same house is now appraised at 1.8 Million

I have a government job, I make nearly 100, 000/year I have absolutely no hope of house ownership in my current city. 29 years old - still living in my parents basement because I don't want to throw away 2000 a month on a 1 bedroom rental. The bank will only mortgage me a maximum of 276, 000 - the average house cost in my city is 900, 000$

If someone like me with a high-paying government job cannot do it at 29, who can?

I'm forced to either consider moving (relocating) to Alberta or Saskatchewan for home ownership or waiting years and hoping at some point I can get the funds to own somehow mortage a 1 million dollar home here.

It's insane what they have done to this country.

I live in Niagara and I just gotta point something out. Toronto buyers are the major problem in Niagara. The trend of becoming passive income landlords and air bnb owners is a big part of what made it so unaffordable. it a massive tourist attraction. Before that it was actually very cheap to own a home here. I also work in contraction and having lived blocks from the falls, I notice my neighborhoods is over run with these investment homes. When trying to buy a house, it wasn't the price that made it hard to get. It was the fact that you could offer the asking price, and aninvestor would come in and offer more. Every house in my old neigbourhood sold above the asking prices. I don't know much about the rest of Ontario but this is how it's been here.

Also just want to point out that yeah, we have more land mass then the USA but I've also been to nunavut, Pond Inlet. If you can handle the harsh conditions, good luck affording a jar of pickles at $50. Also don't forget how much more we pay for internet and phone, for no other reason then monopolies.

I laugh when Americans talk about the housing crisis. Right now Canadian's can only dream of seeing a house listed at $164k 😅

0:57 Although I agree with his other reasoning, Americans definitely have more usable land mass then we do. 70% of Canada’s landmass is an uninhabitable snowy desert

This is the biggest issue in Canada for young people right now. Our society needs young people to be hopeful and optimistic, to have families, dream, start businesses and grow. By taking away the chance of ever buying a home we are sacrificing a whole demographic, the consequences to our society of this will be catastrophic.

The Housing Minister is too busy investing in the Housing Crisis instead of fixing it. This is a conflict of interest that leads to corruption.

He doesn't even talk about the problem, he just talks bad about you for speaking up. Why do people like this get into power. Please save our country.
