Squirrel trapped in 'squirrel-proof' bird feeder! - Animal rescue

So-called 'squirrel-proof' bird feeders are often anything but and we are often called out to help rescue stuck squirrels from this unlucky predicament!

Luckily for this one, it was not held tightly and, after being cut free by Simon, it could be safely returned to the wild :)

We rescue and rehabilitate grey squirrels under licence.

When I was a child, my father actually came up with an ingenious solution: Take a large plastic bowl or glass lamp shade and hang it in a dome over top of and covering the top of the feeder. It was a safe and fairly effective way to keep them out, and made for some pretty funny entertainment watching them try. :D

I place my bird food in a bowl on the table outside. All squirrels welcome to come & go as they please. 🐿 ❤️

Poor little sod.

I’ve learnt from hard experience and quite a little cost that there is no such thing as a squirrel proof bird feeder. Trust me, they always find a way in....always 👍🏻

Still, you’ve gotta love the little shits 😍

At least this one didn't try to run away with the feeder still attached!

There used to be a "squirrel-proof" bird feeder in my grandma's neighborhood, and I used to have a grand old time watching the squirrels engage in all sorts of upside-down contortions and acrobatics to get in there.  They're amazingly ingenuitive!  Another job well done, Simon & crew!

Frantic little feasters. Who could blane the squirrels, it's so cold I'd be tempted too. Poor little mite, thankyou for his rescue, I'm sure he's grateful.
Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas, you've earned it ❤❤❤❤

Simon made short work of that, much to the little sweetie's relief. Cute fluffy little one he was. Lovely! Merry Christmas to all at WAF! 🎄✨ ❤️

Squirrel-proof bird feeder:
A tall, skinny pole set up far from any trees with a slinky around it and attached at the top.

Would have been hilarious if the squirrel was hanging around to try & get at the bird feed again. Then get stuck again and Simon gets called again a half-hour later.
🐿✌️😄

Great job 👍 I love my garden squirrels 💕 Iv got a plant pot tied in the tree which I fill every morning with peanuts...and walnuts if I'm flush 😉 they are so mischievous. I love watching them wind up next doors cat 😂 nice to see so many people here love them as much as I do 😍

I remember my grandmother (back when she didn't live with us) had a separate tray with various nuts in it for the squirrels and chipmunks that would come along. The squirrels wanted the bird seed sometimes, but they weren't a huge problem.
