On May 9, the Project on International Order and Strategy at Brookings will host Bobo Lo for a discussion on “A Wary Embrace,” a new paper from the Lowy Institute for International Policy, where Bobo Lo sets out the critical question of whether Russia and China will “define the rules of global politics” in the 21st century.

Analyzing Oriental culture with Western mindset leads only to misunderstanding and therefore wrong conclusion. Both China and Russia never aimed to occupy G7 countries, but only seeking mutual progress. The West is always seeking pretext to intervene in other countries affairs, like this forum is designed to.

The Asian lady speaker is absolutely on the button; I mean absolutely ! She is objective and does not need to persuade anyone, just made her point as it is; and my prayer for a great partnership between Russia and China will be sealed by a band of iron. God bless Russia and President Putin and God bless President Xi.

I do not understand why these think tanks never discuss the Shanghai Cooperative Organisation (SCO). One would be hard pressed to find a comprehensive in depth analysis of what the SCO means to the west anywhere.

How one can analyze the Russia and China relationship critically without considering the relationship between the US and Israel as it relates to the very topics raised in your debate is well frankly beyond me. If rules and laws are not applied equally then they no longer remain laws but something else. So I heartily respect the judgments on Russia and China as long as the same bar is used to judge America and Israel.

Most Western Thinkers and Geo-Strategists tend to dismiss the significance of the Shanghai Cooperative Organization (SCO) founded by Russia and China in 2001. They also tend to accentuate their differences and minimize their common hatred of the existing global Uni-Polar world order headed by the US. "Why should the US have all authority to tell other nations what they can and cannot do?", they all think and say with one mind. The SCO understands Mackinder Heartland theory which proposed that whoever controls the Heartland (Eurasia) controls the world. The power struggle of a Multi-Polar vs Uni-Polar world authority is underway and growing in intensity with the final outcome being Total War! :(

No matter what happens between China and Russia, they must stay as partners no matter. The west would pray for a break up of this partnership, but for China and Russia must search for common grounds to seal their shared interests. From my own point of view, Russia and China has built trade from several hundred million to the level today of almost 100 billion and that is not trivial. When Russia begins delivering gas to China by the end of this year, Trade between Russia and China will past at least 250 billion. At that level of trade and commerce, they will be linked at the hip; that is what all of our peoples should pray will happen. Good luck to both our motherlands.

`Wary', in the preferred perception of the western Brookings Institute and friends.
China and Russia are old acquaintances, through hard times and good, and need no definitions from others, so this is for another audience.
Now, I wonder who that might be?

Since more than 5000 years ago, China is there, in China. Even Chenghe sailed more earlier than Columbus, China did not occupied foreign land. Unfortunately during Qing dynasti, China was weak. This trigered western, Russian, Japan to occupy China. Tsingtao was a German zone, northern China was Jpn and Russian zones Fukien, Taiwan were Dutch zone, Shanghai was divided into France, Italy, Japan & US zone while Hongkong was British zone. These all are under agreements with gun pointed on the Chinese head.
All of those zones are returned back to China, except the Russian zone, an area as big as Iran. Some day, Xi has to ask it from the Russian as Helmut Kohl has asked East German (DDR) back from Soviet Union.
