21:02 I'm sorry that some people have made such horrible comments on your videos. I enjoy hearing your unique perspective on fountain pens and other things.😊
I own a few Sailor Pro Gear Slim fountain pens. They are comfortable to write with and I appreciate their designs.

I'm disappointed with your misleading headline when you alluded to not liking your Sailor pen, only to learn that you are well pleased with it!

I love Sailors. The MF on my Pro Gear and 1911 large is the perfect width for me.

I own and use two Sailor pens with 21K gold nibs. The first is a 1911 L with a Maginata Togi broad nib and the second is a turquoise urushi KOP with a broad nib bought from Goulet Pens. Both are phenomenal writers and have set the world standard in fountain pen nibs.

I don’t know how different a Sailor 21k Medium is from a Medium-Fine one, but I have a Pro Gear with a 21K Medium-Fine and it couldn’t be more different compared to my Medium Pilot Custom 823. Both are lovely nibs in different ways. Even the 21K KOP nib (which is way softer and smoother than the Progear 21k Medium-Fine) feels so so so so different in comparison to the 823 Medium nib (which is super smooth, but different). You really should give a shot to the 1911 KOP in Black Ebonite with a Medium nib if you want to experience a truly remarkable Sailor nib. It is kind of silly and sad but even my best nibs feel like just normal and unremarkable if I compare them to the KOP nib. After writing with the KOP pen, I have to take a break writing for like a day and then go back to mi other nice pens if I really want to enjoy them again. But this is just my perception and feelings about it, you should try it for yourself.

I have two 1911s both being the "large" versions. One is a burgundy with converter and one is a black Realo which is on a piston. I was so so on the latter as it was EF and a little scratchy for me. Then I took it to the DC pen show and Matthew Chen made it buttery smooth and I love it. But the magic came with the burgundy pen which had a music nib. The Sailor music nibs have a single cut as opposed to other makes that have two slits for music nibs. I had it adjusted to an architect by Matthew Chen. As a licensed architect, I am just enamored with it, writing notes on my drawings. I try to find a reason to justify carrying it everyday to work together with the other pens I use. It is a very reliable pen, doesn't dry, and it is smooth thanks to the nib meister. So I cannot say anything too special about the body, but it is just a very good reliable pen to keep writing with, especially with that architect nib effect.

Finally after some gentle nagging, we get a 1911 review. I purchased my 743 because of the filling system. I DO understand the.. .. I don’t want to say pretentiousness but come on man. I also like tons of high maintenance, expensive hobbies and I also like a piston fill, if I want the best of something. The converter feels like the cheaper, disposable versus BUT, it does have its place and is better than a piston for some applications.. easier to clean in some cases, easier to fix, less maintenance, there’s the option for cartridges as spares, travel or whatever, you can change the inks out more often and easier. I understand how easy it is to dismiss a converter pen when you have far better pistons. A piston definitely feels more refined and sophisticated so why in the hell would you want to backslide and slum it with a converter pen.. but I’ve learned to accept them as more efficient in some cases.

I also rip boxes open, like an animal. I don’t even bother trying to take the tape off. I just grab a corner of a box and rip the cardboard like a psycho.

I’ve been using that Herbin Saphir and side by side using my fav, bay state, and they’re VERY similar colors. The bay state has more of a punch though. Gotta live to at JH heritage though. It makes you feel like a part of history, using it.

Crabs in a bucket my friend. Don’t listen to negativity. Constructive criticism is way different than negativity. I really like the author’s who use fountain pens episodes. ✒️ 📜🕯️🌒🖤

I'm not into celebrities either, but I make an exception for Audrey Hepburn.

I have two Sailor Pro Gear Realo pens. I love them. They’re a nice change of pace from my other smoother nibs. I enjoy the feedback. The 21k nib is awesome. Right up there with my 823 and Viscontis.

I love my Sailor 1911L for its nib (MF). To my surprise I absolutely prefer feedback over smoothness (Pilot). I have yet to try Platinum.
Anyway, thank you!

I rarely if ever watch these livestreams. But I fell for this outright clickbait title. Because I love Sailor pens, especially their 21k gold nib. And the #8 sized 21k on the Sailor KoP is just sublime. My favorite Japanese gold nib, no question. Now, I, or anybody else, could be forgiven for thinking that you were actually not at all enamored with Sailor’s premium pens like the 1911L. But you actually seem to be very pleased with the pen. So, btw, what exactly is wrong with Sailor pens?
Also, while I agree that both the PC 823 and 1911L are fantastic writers, they are differently great. I’m certain I could tell the difference between the two nibs, if taking the blindfold test with them both.
I have my criticisms of several aspects of your style, but I scarcely feel the urge to post them in the comments here.
OMAS, today, and certainly the faux-OMAS pen you own do not have in-house nibs. Since 2000, or maybe 2005, OMAS gold nibs are made by Bock. And tweaked and tuned by OMAS to their standards. But that’s how it used to be. I don’t know if the current OMAS people do even that to the Bock nibs the latest pens are fitted with.
Made-in-house nibs are great. The only ones I’m not very fond of are the Pelikan gold nibs. Wildly inconsistent in line-width across different size designations. And also a squishy feel to their generally ‘soft’ nibs is something I quite dislike. My own current collection is overwhelmingly comprised of pens (modern or vintage) from brands with in-house nibs. I’ve long quit buying Jowo nib holders at funny prices.

I'm glad you have gotten better acquainted with your Sailor, I love my Sailor pens for work,

It's a shame that you haven't learnt more about more Sailor's history as they have driven quite a bit of innovation in the fountain pen industry from pretty much being the first company to make plastic fountain pens and pretty much inventing the fountain pen cartridge, to some true nib grinds innovation, I have a zoom and a Naginata that are delicious and Hope to get one of their stacked nibs v soon 🤞

Hem, I believe people who leave negative comments probably kick their dogs and don’t tip their waitresses . Just horrible people.

Hi, Hemingway/Timothy! I’m five days late watching this. Seldom able to watch live, unfortunately. I hope you’re feeling better. Tummy bugs, ugh. I thoroughly enjoyed your Sailor talk! Aesthetically, I like the ProGear better than the 1911. It just looks snappier to me. But both write like a dream though.

I have three sailors - one 21K L in burgundy, another 21K L in maki-e representing a koi and a smaller one 14K maki-e representing an oil. I love owls!

Ignore the haters they’re not worth your time. I have little love for the Sailor’s in my collection and I rarely use them. 3 are on my to sell list for this year, including my 1911L. My experience with the Pilot and Sailor nibs is different to yours. My Sailors are smooth but have far more feedback than my Pilots. My 823 M nib is much smoother with less feedback than my 1911L or Pro Gear M nibs. All my Sailors have that graphite pencil feedback which my Pilots don’t. Are my nibs atypical? QC variation? In my view Pilots are better value for money as well. Sailor’s are also more expensive for what they are and they’re also smaller in size than I prefer. I’m surprised you don’t use the Pilot C823 in the office. Great pen. I’m looking forward to my 823 with the new signature nib arriving tomorrow.

My really like the Sailor Pro Gear regular size that I have. I am completely underwhelmed with the slim version, and the 1911. I got the King of Pens for like $300 off and still felt like I spent way too much money for the pen and felt buyers remorse. I like the nib, it's fun, but the converter size is small and it runs out of ink fast. All the converters on these pens are cheap and break frequently. I think the pens are way overpriced for what you get. Again, just my opinion, I know some people love them and that's okay! :)
