Pokemon spent 99% of its budget on lawyers for dmca takedowns

The cliffs are so awful in Pokemon... It was one of the most jarring things for me. Made it look like I was back on the N64.

palworld is a love letter for pokemon fans

it's actually insane that a multi-billion dollar franchise is outdone by a small team of developers. how does pokemon STILL look this bad...it almost looks like a ps2 game.

Even more baffling is that palworld didn't even do much; they mostly grabbed unreal assets and shoved them here and there, and yet it still looks better than pokemon...

whats crazy is that pal world is literally a open beta rn its not even a finished game and it out does pokemon so hard already

This is really sad. I would be more forgiving of Palworld looking like Scarlet/Violet than I am of Scarlet/Violet looking like they do. And there is no excuse when you consider how much money the Pokémon franchise makes and the fact that we have "Dragon Quest 11" and "Shin Megami Tensei 5" on the Switch.

Remember this game is 59.99 dollers and pal world is only 29.99 and also you can pet every pal in pal world 😊

This is a classic example of why it's unfair to compare smaller, indie games to the titans of the gaming industry... Right up until you ask "Wait... Which one's the Indie title, again??".

Having said that? Graphics aren't everything, and Pokemon doesn't NEED bleeding edge visuals. But they could at least TRY to look like they're more than 2 steps up from Mario 64! Especially when Palworld is possible on a VASTLY smaller budget!

from what I remember: Pokemon was originally for portable devices, from the Game Boy to the Nintendo 3DS, but when they moved to the Switch era, their schedule was... messy, made themselves an original game with half of their budget but didn't make the cut, then rushing to make games like this. (Except Legends Arceus in which i think is a spin as a response to fans criticisms, here's to looking forward for the new Legends game!)

and Palworld was from a small company who actually learned how to make a decent game cuz they got serious and hired someone with many experiences on game development, yet had to start off from scratch to make it again on Unreal Engine instead of Unity.

Truly a miraculous story.

(And also it's hilarious, coming from a Pokemon fangirl myself)

As good as Palworld's graphics are, there is something to be said for choosing artstyle over realistic graphics. Games like Windwaker prove a good artstyle can stand the test of time far better than just pure graphical power. Pokemon S/V on the other hand, has neither going for it.

While some of these choices are for art style, you cant deny that Pal World is just more polished, even when compared to a video of Pokemon SV at 60 FPS, I still think pal world wins by a large margin. Partly due to system restraints yes the switch is old, and also including the target audience, but overall, I definitely feel like more work went into Pal World then Pokemon. For half the price, I have spent twice as much time in Pal World and having a blast the entire time vs having Scarlet since launch and only collecting 70-80 hours, mostly grinding and trying for good RNG parties or on discords looking for parties for the raids.

Some people mention Pal world's drop in players, I would just like to say that its still early access and to wait to see the numbers again when updates hit, major updates expanding on what they have, not just bug fixes.

Pokemon is for children. They freely admit this, after earlier generations they said they would not be growing with their fans and instead seeking new younger audiences.

Scarlet looks like a high end N64 game with a more later 2000s character inserted in it XD.

I like palworlds graphics better ... But i dont necessarily think Pokemons is all that bad ... The plastic-like nature of everything sort of leads into the art style they focus on for their chars

You don't have to have super duper graphics to have a good game,
No man sky proves that.

Pokémon with its own stylized graphics.
Palworld uses Unreal Engine 5.
