OK, Ollie, yes pumpkin bread does straddle the line between bread and cake. Sweet breads, quick breads – easy breads that are basically a muffin in a loaf pan.

Pumpkin bread is a sweet bread, also called a tea bread. It's not for sandwiches, but more like a less-sweet dessert or treat. And yes, it goes great with a cup of coffee or tea (so very British!)😋 Sounds like the one you're having has dried cranberries in it, though raisins are common, too, or no dried fruit at all. And nuts, typically walnuts or pecans, depending on where you live / what's most popular in your part of the country. Sliced, toasted, and buttered is delicious!

I love making pumpkin bread, its so easy too! A few years ago my grocery store had a sale the day after Halloween for those big carving pumpkins for $1 and I got 4 and spent the day processing and pureeing them and then that whole week I made pumpkin stuff, pumpkin cheesecake, roasted pumpkin and potatoes, pumpkin smoothies, pumpkin soup and tons of pumpkin bread that I just froze. That was a good year.

Sweet breads were created from just about anything and yes by the farmers and families making do. Also cowboys became great at making their own versions. Best eaten the next day, or two. As then the ingredients have a chance to hug each other, sit down for a bit, and take their shoes off.

Never had i ever had pumpkin bread with raisins in it! Its always just plain where i come from. Cut a slice cold and crisp it in a pan with butter 🙂

There is always leftover pumpkin puree left in the can after the recipe measure. I spread that across slices instead of butter.

In the US, some sweet, breadlike cakes are called breads such as Banana Nut Bread, Zucchini Bread and here, of course, Pumpkin Spice Bread.

I had a French roommate in college who loved the American Carrot cake. Zucchini bread. Pumpkin bread, etc.

Yep! Pumpkin bread is a sweet bread good with coffee, tea, milk or hot chocolate. Comfort anytime food.

Not a BLT, per se, but smaller square of that bread w/ some butter or cream cheese, cranberry sauce & bacon? Maybe even a half of a spicy roasted brussel sprout on there? Yeah. That's the kind of snack you eat a couple hours after the meal when you just want a taste of all that goodness again... 🤤

I bake applesauce bread with cinnamon, ginger, honey and walnuts.
So satisfying when eaten warm with a cup of hot tea or cold glass of orange juice.
So very comforting.❤

Mom made pumpkin bread wiith molasses....deeper brown super moist. She used cream cheese made pumpkin bread cream cheese sandwiches. Yummy...
