Ford Mustang 2025 review - Australia:: S650 GT V8 Fastback

The new Ford Mustang S650 took a long time to get to Australia, but now it's here, I can tell you it has DEFINITELY been worth the wait.

I drove the GT Fastback - yes, with the 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine - for this review, and I don't think you should consider any other version of this car. I mean, if you want a convertible, fine... and if you insist on a manual, there's one of those, too.

But the V8 with the 10-speed auto is a hoot, and the transmission is a honey, too. You'll see in this video that I had a LOT of fun sampling the speed on offer (including a 0-100km/h time test), and I'll also show you all the stuff you want to know about -- those screens, the tech, the drivability, the practicality and more!

You can get a spare tyre as an accessory. I looked at the other options but I wanted a rear wheel drive, manual car and the V8 sealed the deal. I am actually upgrading from an MX5 which I love.

Gotta love those Mustang V8 PETROL engines, right mate? How bout those vents in the BONNET and that space in the BOOT! I won't talk wings bc I don't want to confuse which part of the car we're talking about. Maybe I should get a right-hand drive model. That would really be something in The States.

All the features on the new Mustang I already have on my 2020 model. I think I'll stick with the good ol s550 for few more years

Gotta admit, that sounds so sweet. And the tech inside is very impressive. For many this is probably the only true ICE muscle car that you'd want, within the sub-A$100K range. Not for me though, I think if I was going after muscle, I'd go for the Hyundai Ioniq-5N. Sacrilege? ...maybe but I'm a techie geek and the 5N does it for me.

@therightcar regarding the steering wheel, there is a button on the steering wheel with a steering wheel symbol on it, you press this & you can adjust your steering in 3 different types.

I l
Just found your var review channel and you are very good at what you do. You are very thorough and you go through everything I would need to know about a car. My only suggestion is that you put USA figures on the screen also (mph, mpg ) other then that you are fantastic.

Have one on order got built last week, serious keen to get it in my drive way. My wife has a new BRZ, I would agree its a wicked alternative also funny enough, I sold my modified abarth 124 (italian mx5) for my stang. My wife and myself hit all 3 of your recommendations.

Not a 2025, it's a MY2024 as production of 25's has not yet started, never mind the shipping time to down under.

The Bogan in me was reaching for the cheque book untill no spare.😊

The Mustang is a direct injection engine that explains the good fuel usage the Australian V8s were not direct injection engines so they surely would have used more fuel.

No spare wheel is deal-breaker, especially here in South Africa

Didn't realize you could even still get a naturally aspirated V8, rear wheel drive manual car for under $300K. Somehow this is still 1 full second slower to 100km/h than my 228kW audi S3 though?...

Matt, the best thing is that, unlike the Audi RS6 you tested recently, you may even be able to afford the Ford.
I'd take the Audi as well, sadly, money does matter...

Maybe if it’s a manual… fun on trackday… hate those screens…
