When I used to watch Ruroni Kenshin in my childhood I didn't really understand Shishio/Sojiro's motivations. But after I grew up, the Shishio/Sojiro's mentality of "the fittest survive, weak die" kinda grew on me.
I still think that Shishio played it too extreme, and he made quite a lot of unthoughtful mistakes, but generally, weak people really do end up suffering/serving the strong.
People like Himura can't help every single weak man on the planet. If Sojiro didn't learn this lesson - he would've been long since dead.

But again, as Kenshin himself said, there're a lot more nuances in life than to just narrowing it down to a one single rule.

Damn, all this before he moved to Tokyo and opened a coffee and curry shop? You know, he's held up surprisingly well for having such a traumatic childhood!

Serves those sh*tbugs right. And I like how Shishio just sat there and ate as he listened to the women screams.

In fairness, they were abusing him badly then they play the victim when he has had enough, protects himself, and says he won't stand for this any longer.

How can somebody be so cruel to such a sweet child? The kids didn’t know better, but the adults? These are just pieces of shit.

Survival of the fittest is definitely true, and I've witnessed it in my own household. Of course things don't get physical but people step on each other spiritually and emotionally to come out on top.
