I like when the game sprinkles in little hints like this that show just how much Joker's unfair and unfortunate situation really affects him. Hints like the one after the buffet scene when the Phantom Thieves are officially formed, Morgana mentions that it isn't surprising that Joker got sick after eating so much food because he hasn't been eating much/properly since arriving at Leblanc. Or how his glasses are actually fake because he wants to give off the impression that he's just some nameless, unassuming nobody so that he doesn't draw any unwanted attention to himself, because drawing attention to himself is exactly what landed him in this situation in the first place. Stuff like this add more depth to Joker and make him out to be more than just a blank slate, silent protagonist.

since people in the comments seem a bit confused because of the sprite used in the thumbnail: at this point in the game ren is on probation. meaning there was already an arrest, interrogation, court hearings and verdict. throughout all of that, he would have had to sign official documents over and over again under intense pressure to agree that he's guilty no matter what he says. this isn't about the infamous interrogation room scene at all but the traumatic events he already went through because of shido. the mementos mission manga also shows he has trauma over this specific incident, unrelated to the in-game interrogation room scene.

After Joker is taken out of the interrogation room and they go to target the last target, you can see in the menu before going to the metaverse that Joker is still holding his head and isn't as he usually is. This also shows how he still has headaches and pain from being mistreated in the interrogation room.

They put a lot of thought into Joker and showing subtle hints that though he seems okay, he is NOT okay and most likely will continue to have trauma from this incident for a LONG time

Poor guy :( he does a hell of a job carrying himself and it’s sweet to see Morgana caring for him like that

A neat detail is if you level proficiency enough, when studying in LeBlanc joker twirls his pencil around instead of tapping it on the notebook: after catching up to the present, he'll be holding one hand to his head, reminding you of the abuse he's suffered from the cops

It's so easy to overlook what happened to him as a player since we barely see it, but i really do feel for joker.
i think that unresolved trauma is presented so organically yet still gives an insight into the hell he went through

Ren: Traumatized from being tried in court
Makoto: Traumatized from the death of his parents
Narukami: *ROFLMAOOO*

One thing I've always thought was wacky was they really had Joker and his friends get over that whole drugged and abused thing pretty quickly all things considered, that would fuck a highschooler up hard

There are lots of little hints about Joker's perspective on his lot in life during the game.

If you listen to the lyrics of "Beneath the Mask" and assume it's taking place from Ren/Akira's perspective, then that could count too.

Poor Ren… not only is being the leader of The Phantom Thieves already a grueling enough task, but he also has to bear the weight of what he went through during his capture and interrogation… and let’s not forget that he’s also a wild card, life isn’t easy for this guy…

Aww… I saw this scene and didn’t know what it was referencing, poor Joker

It's crazy seeing how easy Joker could've ended up like Akechi. Cast away from everything he knew, treated like a pest at his new home (at the start), shunned by his schoolmates. I wouldn't have been surprised if Joker would've gone a darker route like Akechi if he had to go through everything involving the metaverse on his own. I mean he didn't even seem bothered with handing over the choice to spare Kamoshida to Ann. It certainly wouldn't be hard to imagine in slightly more radical circumstances he could've resorted to murder. Royal really did well in improving Akechi and Jokers dynamic it's insane.

Kinda wish they went into more about Ren’s home before he moved and just more about his own struggles

Why do people keep saying that the protagonists canon name is Ren Amamiya?

It's obviously This Guy.

Important note, this probably about his trauma with court, not the interrogation scene, that doesn’t happen until way later

Imagine this
You fought for the right yet everyone treats you like shit
Yet when you still have a 2nd chance in life no one even cares about talking to you even school treats you like a shitty guy
Luckily the persona thing made him at least have a place to exist

Imagine if they had a shop in strikers where you signed for a membership and Morgana mentions how bad jokers hands were shaking. That would’ve been so good and shows that despite his behavior in the metaverse (or whatever it was called I forgot) he still has some serious PTSD because yeah that interrogation would give someone PTSD he was beaten drugged and (if you choose to refuse signing) threatened to lose a leg

Imagine trying to save a woman from a corrupt and drunk politician getting his way with her, and then irrationally get a criminal record for “assaulting” them. I wouldn’t be surprised if such bull💩 exists rn.😤
