I find X4 Foundations to be one of the most frustrating games I've ever played and yet the payoff has amounted to this possibly being one of my top 2 or 3 games of all time. It's difficult to get started, it doesn't hold your hand (putting it mildly), you have to take night community classes to learn this beast, but the reward is so worth it. I have put Elite Dangerous, No Man's Sky, Empyrion, and Star Citizen on the back-burner for this game.

Played all X series and X4 is so much fun and beautiful. You can literally watch the hymes of millions of laser melting away ships from the open deck of your fleet carrier.

*I stop playing all other space games for X4* X4 is the very best. The big advantage of X4 is that you can play the part you want without worrying about how the universe will change when you are not there. I LOVE IT. Sin of a Solar is very good; however, you can not visit any of the stations or fly a ship.
The Learning Curve is WORTH IT. This is the best space game I have ever played in my life.

To be fair. They are like 20 people in the studio and they make the x games and nothing else. All their budget come from the previous games... for over two decades now... Just imagine what they could do if they had star citizens budget.

I need the scope of X4 and the Scale of ED and No Mans Sky to combine with the depth and detail of Star Citizen. Also with the empire building I need to be able to build out and manage an entire planet. Research technology trees for planetary defense. Build orbital defense platforms. Grow and manage planetary npcs that fill the roles on the planet. Bam!!

Never played the X series until X4 but it is my top game of all time now, I really hope they keep adding to it because people are starting to realize how amazing this game is

Bad bug Ive got yesterday (in july 2022):
I bought a big mining ship and was onboard on foot. When I wanted to get out in space with my suit, the exterial door didnt open and I was stuck in the little space suit airlock, clipping inside the ship geometry. I couldnt get out at all and had to reload.
Very frustrating.
But the game is still mega fun, which I did not expected.
And I really like the singleplayer aspect.
That is something you hardly get nowdays with such a title. As you mentioned, Elite is online, Star Citizen is online, Eve is, well, its name is Eve online ^^
But X?
That is something for the hearts of the real singleplayer fans who dont want to get ganked by frikkin overpowered and bored players all the time.
Which call themselves "pirates" and propagate their right to kill every small player from the get go in the forums (Yes, this happened)

I played a lot of X3TC many years ago and bought X4 but hardly played it.

Got back into it recently and have become addicted. I'm at a point now where I spend most of my game time being flown around on one of my capital ships looking at a map or sitting in my personal office 😅

Was planning on getting a hotas set-up for this and msfs2020 but because I hardly pilot my own ships any more I don't know if its worth it

I'm sick of all the competition. The PERFECT space game is virtually objective.

Huge, preferably endless systems so numerous a whole population could never discover everything in one lifetime not even nearly.

High fidelity and large scale planetary landings. No faking the horizon because that IS the horizon, no loading screens. What you see in orbit represents what you get on the ground.

Comprehensive ship interiors and survival mechanics. Food, drink and rest as well as ships being real ships with reql functions, akin to Starship Simulator or Stat Citizen.

Realistic economy and world, such as Elite Dangerous. With large scale powerplay always being run. A lot of issues but the way that game employs space politics as well as the scale is absolutely unrivalled and should not be ignored.

Construction, like Space Engineers but more. Stations, bases, fighters, capital ships all being built and sold and published from player creations, like Dual Universe.

And too many more to mention. But any space game fan would find no issue in these features and with octo core CPUs, 32gb of Ram and 8-12gb of VRAM being recommended specs in the next few years, I'd argue such a game will be possible if all the people that made all these come together.

Don't compete, collaborate.

Once you have unlocked Teleportation you can simply teleport out of sector and back (provided you have something to teleport close enough by, that problem is gone at the third stage of the research though), on re-entering the sector your vessel will be placed outside the station.
For that, you have to play the HQ plot of course, but you need the HQ for so many things, better start early. After the first million or so...
Yes, those weird necks are bad, especially when they lean forward like in the Bars XD

I'm new to X series, but this game got me addicted, and i still not figured out everything yet.
Lasta night i was playing and i was helping the PAR faction to conquer HOP territory, and i was piloting only a Syn destroyer, at first you think you can use the same strategy as you do for a fighter, but nope, you need to adjust your tactics to the hulking beast that the syn is, even though, once you tame the beast, it becomes unstoppable.
The turrets would do the job to deal with small ships, while the main guns are to be used in stations and larger ships, but combat still can be very engaging and strategic.
For example, in one fight last night i was battling a odysseus destroyer, when i notice that some 20 km away another one was heading to my way.
My shields where down when i finished the first Odysseus, i could try to evade the odysseus shots at long distance but this would only delay the inevitable...
So, what i did?
I hit travel mode and run pass the odysseus, w.hen i pas by it, I disable the flight assistant, and turn shooting the Odysseus, ended up right behind him, and i made short work of their engines, and soon after the Odysseus was no more.
See? Theres a lot of things going on in X4, and sometimes you need to be clever and use you knowledge of the game mechanics to do some amazing stuff.
Also, after finishing the battle i hade to lick my syn wounds, it took a lot of damage, so i put my space wheelchair and went to fix turrets, the engine.
Also i think egosoft guys should add a command to hold the repair drones, because the spawn automatically when your ship start to take damage and they get destroyed very easily, especially when large things go boom in close proximity of your ship, the shield ships can take the damage, but the drones don't.
One mode that i added to the game is the escape pod mod, with this one you are automatically and can escape the battle with your crew, wich is way more grounded than be teleported outside the ship, while your crew burns.

You can get unstuck from a station by giving control of the ship to the assigned pilot for a moment

When stuck in the geometry of something while in a ship, just order the ship to go somewhere and let the ship's captain sort this out.

Good vid. I recently discovered the game and want to give it a try, but I am leery about paying full price. It's going to take me longer than Steam's 2 hour grace period to feel the game out I think.

The game checks all of the boxes for me. I love simulation and sandbox rpgs with empire building mechanics. Word of warning however; X4 is not optimized and slows down during the late game and large battles and lowering graphical settings does little to help. The devs have not given us much reason for optimism regarding increased performance as the problems seem to be hard coded in the engine. I am going to hold off playing until I upgrade my PC later this year with the release of the next generation of CPU's and GPU's. There is also a Star Wars overhaul mod called Interworlds, that is worth checking out since I know this channel posts SWG videos. Interworlds is close to releasing the next update which promises new races and ships. If you have always wanted to command a star destroyer or mon calamari cruiser, this is your game.
