Turkey's attempt to obtain a designation of origin for döner kebab is ridiculous. It is not something that is produced in one specific region like wines and cheeses. It makes sense that only wine made in the Champagne region of France can be called champagne. But döner is not a region. Döner kebab just means 'rotating roast meat' in Turkish. It's much too general.
