This link above refers to four ‘myths’ that most people have on the role of right wing populism in government, and how it can rise in democracies today. This site mainly focuses on Poland, and how its government, specifically the law and justice party, are becoming more and more powerful in government. However this article is over 11 months old.
This article talks about how Muslims are beginning to be seen as outsiders, and are being scapegoated. This talks about how Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orban used scapegoats to achieve his current power. One scapegoat that they had in common with the Polish law and justice party was Euroscepticism.
The article talks about the ‘figurative democracy’ of Hungary and that on the ‘free’ scale, it has fallen from one to three, or fully free to partly free. It also explains how the checks and balances of the Hungarian government have effectively been turned into just separate departments of the central branch.
This article discusses a far-right march in Warsaw. It also talks about how some governors objected to this. The article also discusses the xenophobia of the parade. This plays into the rise of right wing populism in Poland.
This article discusses the events of November 11, 2019, where normal citizens as well as far-right crypto-fascists had partaken in the same celebration of nationalism. This was a critical step to the descent of Poland into right wing populism.
This article talks about how the Hungarian dictator denounced the Treaty of Trianon, on the 100th anniversary of its signing. This same action was undertaken by Mikilos Horthy, the same person who joined Adolf Hitler in WWII. This treaty was used to end Austro-Hungarian involvement in WWI.
This article covers the Hungarian dictator’s rise to power from the volatile Hungarian political environment, to his eventual appointment as prime minister. It covers many things such as the labor law, as well as other policies. This will give more context to Orban’s rise to power.
This article covers the outcomes of Poland’s extreme nationalism, as well as its influence on the EU. This would help me make predictions in my presentation about what could happen if Poland is not curbed.
