Why Hip Hop Doesn't Respect Will Smith

Over nearly three decades, Will Smith has solidified himself as one of the biggest actors ever. Catapulting into stardom as the star of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Smith’s presence on tv and film soon after that loomed so large that the general opinion of Will Smith as a rapper weakened. Will Smith, the rapper, was widely viewed as a charming, comedic alternate reality that everyone played along with when one of his massive singles would play in the club or on the radio. Simply put, Smith’s acting career made people treat his music career much less seriously.

At this point he's an ICON. Far from corny or Lame. People would miss him if he wasn't Pepa.
Update = Will is King is all.

never found him corny. His work w/ Jeff is legendary, and he had a solid solo career. He's cemented himself in the game, plus he'll always and forever have a summer staple with Summertime.

Y’all should’ve gave Will the respect after so long. The man was the first rapper to win a Grammy and gave us classics such as the fresh prince of bel air, summertime, and parents just don’t understand. Not to mention he’s been in films such as men in black, bad boys, & Independence Day.

He’s a black icon he has the upmost respect in the community. He surpassed hip hop into being a mainstay in all media. I’d rather transcend then stay in one lane. Music changes. He found away to stay in the entertainment media. A true artist wants to entertain any way possible.

I always thought that rappers like Will Smith, Kid N Play, LL Cool J, and Heavy D are goats of their own right and people who hate on their style and call them corny all they want to. But they’ll never change my mind😎👍🏽💯

Will definitely doesn’t get the respect he deserves rap wise. It’s crazy but most adults don’t even know he was a rapper. You’d be surprised

Will Smith was a great story teller... Even when he gets on the mic now he sounds prime and his pen game is on point

First rapper I got to listen to & my parents allowed me listen to. Loved his storytelling & all the incredible songs. Nightmare on My Street, 1000 Kisses, Chasing Forever, Born to Reign.... The man had bars

Lol Will has always dropped bars his flow is phenomenal and he will always be a GOAT to me. Plus all his albums have gone gold or platinum that is no easy feat.

I bet most who publicly don't like him, secretly vibe to his tunes.

Let's be honest. If Will Smith was rapping about drugs, the amount of dudes he put in the grave, and the amount of women he slept with, we KNOW he would have gotten a lot of praise.

People thought he was corny because of those reasons alone, yet people found themselves jammin' to his songs.

Murs was ahead of the curve on publicly giving Will respect. I am so glad that this video gave respect to Murs's breakdown.
