I will need a transplant in probably 5 years. Hoping science will bring a solution to a lack of kidneys for hundreds of thousands in need.

Many people alao die for dialasis
They are emotionally and financially ruined. To save a loved one, we want to quickly bring this kidney to the market in the whole world and kidney treatment should not be expensive

As a dialysis patient I have a spark of hope for the future on this but the skeptical untrusting side of me tells me they don't want this to happen because too much money is made by certain people from dialysis treatments.

Yup 5 years and in 5 years they will still be 5 years away. Always years away.

My concern with growing an artifical organ meant for humans in an animal could accidentally create an unforeseen blood disease far worse than covid that could wipe out humanity. Sometimes science can go too far. I am more hopeful about Dr Shuvo Roy's artificial implantable kidney. 🙏 And the wearable dialysis device called "WAK" that has already conducted successful clinical trials on humans.

There is also an artificial kidney being developed by USCFS (The Kidney Project) and other universities that is in the second phase of testing. It is to be a permanent implant about the size of a coffee cup. This maybe available within the next few years pending any setbacks. Furthermore they believe it will represent a cost savings over dialysis so it should be covered by insurance companies and Medicare.

I hear we can vacation in space, in about 7 or 8 years- is it too much to ask for this artificial kidney to a success for all that need it?

The problem is that big dialysis corporations are making billions every year from Dialysis and they will never allow this to happen. They wouldn't be able to afford their lavish lifestyles anymore. It will eventually happen, but you can believe they will fight it the whole way.

When please? it's been 11 years of research, fund raising, promises, potential, wow moments and nothing that has been truly ready for commercial and public use, come now! it's 2021, we have beauty surgeons skyrocketting with a gigantic demand and nothing in this area. I feel disappointed, another 5 years? Might as well continue with dialysis. Potential this, it could be that, it would be, it will, ugh give me a break
