The Big Picture : Technical Education and Regional Languages

In this episode we’ll talk about the latest decision by the centre on giving thrust to mother tongue or to say regional language in technical education, especially engineering courses, from next academic year. A few IITs and NITs are being shortlisted for the same. The decision to teach in regional language was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Union Minister of Education Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank last month. In their decision announced, the ministry said that this move is in line with the new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 which promotes regional language as a mode of delivering education.

I think the learning should be in mix language, which is of official language ( Hindi)and the global language ( English).and thank u rstv to discuss the topic, upsc preparation is incomplete without rstv big picture😊☺

This is dumbest idea, now I need to search for local language before go to central University of other state . Simply bound me a region . Constitution allow to go anywhere in India . It not good idea.

🌳Language of science is same, once students learn in native language which help in improving their creativity, so should be thought in vernacular,
🌳Indian institutes of translation is what will be required
🌳 there will be obstacle that we will found in communication, which can be done away with developing one communication language, which should not be confused with technical language in which content of subjects will be thought
🌳 Research across world has shown positive of V-language eg. s Africa, Lebanon
🌳In context of India, we have seen teachers already using local language except technical term in teaching, converting fully in local language is next things to be seen, but the positive attitude of faculty is one good thing
🌳problem due English: mainly to rural background students- low marks, can’t change branch, lacks of understanding of higher level concepts, overall low confidence
🌳way forward will be introducing local language in few institutions, gauge the outcome, take reference and improve, continue feedback and input will be the solution

The main problem is with the mind set in When an innovative concept is explained to Indians(teachers, banks, businessmen, etc) in Indian language....we don't consider it as a hi-fi funda do it with english language, we listen to it keenly and accept that the person has some good knowledge in the subject.

Before this, it must be ensure that standar books also available in local languge .

There is a possibility that this might lead to Hegemonization of Hindi in the name of promoting regional languages

A very good decision .This is in line with ground reality
.Most of the students who study in KU, OU or jntu in telangana are from telugu medium background .Till 12th standard they are studying in telugu medium and all of a sudden for 4 years they have to study all technical stuff in english .This is one of the main reason why success rate in graduation is less.and why most of the students are not in position to crack jobs
But the prerequisite for this move should be
1)books in regional languages
2)central govt exams should give a option to all people to take exam in regional language with a condition that they should have minimum
knowledge of english

It would be great if migrated students were also taken into consideration, sometimes English as well as regional language both are alien to them n even after being a topper in their State Board they lag behind to cope up if they relocate to any Education Hub for professional or further studies.

In IIT's and central universities students from non hindi speaking states are also studying. So if the medium is hindi how will they be able to understand it if they dont understand hindi

As i am studying Bsc Hons Agriculture in Haryana Agricultural University. Our curriculum is teaching me in English medium so it's difficult to me to interact with farmers at field level. So it is worthfully to teach science subject like Agricultural Science in vernacular languages or the languages in which they easily get the premises of concept

In IITs or any other National Institute diversity of students in terms of language is huge. So my query is when they say regional language, which language are they going to pick up?

english is mean of communication only, but science is same everywhere across the technical institutions, need several reform in education policy which we has been done in our national education policy to inculcate our students to take academic challenge in esay way. first major move to develop our resources in student own vencular language, so the understanding of students enhance with concept. many countries till now publishing their research paper in own language .

What about the students who attend college in different state? is it easy for them to understand that area local language?what about the teacher faculty who transfered over the years?
