Ah yes, the silly vacuum argument, I've had people throw that at me too.

And, of course, it can be filled with peanut butter for a handy snack on a long march.

It's even worse that some people would think that the human body is pressurized to the point that it would create a vacuum around the blade that would make it impossible to remove without this feature.

" when you stab someone with a sword you usually use the pointey end."

The line that made me subscribe

And here I thought that fuller is used to collect the blood of your victim to imprison his soul and therefore strenghtening the sword and it's wielder
Curses!

Fuller is also the tools you use to thin out steel. (In sets of 2) You also use it to produce a "Hollow grind" which is another colloquialism. A hollow edge is Fullered, instead of ground out by stock removal.

"When you thrust a sword into someone, it's usually with the pointy end" - okay, now I'm in a fit of laughter trying to imagine all the unusual alternatives :D

I've heard both the "relieves vacuum" and "holds poison" misconceptions. Luckily, I learned the fuller's actual use before I learned the myths.

Of course, in the modern era, we can do much more to let the air in. State-of-the-art modern blades are actually hollow, like big hypodermic needles. Purists simply build large syringes into the hilts, which is fine if you only want to pump a few cc's of air into the wound, but I prefer to carry an air compressor on my back and really do it right.

"Only a kid or an idiot would call it a blood groove"

Heh, as soon as you said that I noticed that a Greg Medford video was in the related/suggested videos

I just watched that video and immediately dashed to the comments to see people thrashing him for his mistake. I wasn't disappointed.

It would be quite funny if it wasn't so sad. I mean, the fact that was said by a "sword maker".
It amazes me that people keep talking about that. The body doesn't have or produce a vacuum. Just the opposite. It has pressure (blood, gas...).
Anyway, it makes much more sense that a fuller was made so the sword could be lighter while maintaining its mechanical properties (and thus saving precious and scarce good steel)...

The function of the fuller was something I worked out myself as a child after looking at how corrugations function in steel. The blood groove idea always sounded moronic to me.

Thank you for putting the sword's maker and type in the description! Often when I watch your videos, I admire a particular weapon and wonder, 'where can I get one of those?" A direct link would be even better - maybe you could charge commission!
