Is this too big? I finally take a look at the Peak Design Tech Pouch. I love packing cubes, pouches etc. to pack modular. And this is probably one of the more popular ones.

FULL DISCLOSURE:

This video is not sponsored nor did I receive any money. While I sometimes get bags for free, I have to pay custom fees, shipping fees and all my videos have lots of production costs (e.g. software and musicrights). Therefore I invest my own money into all of these videos and I have no intention to be biased towards a product or company. Every review and quicklook is written by me and no company can pay for preferential scheduling or what is said in the video. Furthermore, the company sees the video the same time as all viewers here on youtube. All opinions in this video are my own unless stated otherwise.

HOW I REVIEW:

As you might know from my „How I make a buying decision“ video: Rather than just looking at the pros, I like to evaluate the cons or flaws of an item and then evaluate if I can live with them. That is why in my video reviews I concentrate more on the cons of an item rather than going over all the features. Therefore everything shown is just a fraction of all the points that go into the verdict and score of an item.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A QUICKLOOK AND A REVIEW:

A Quicklook usually covers pre-production units or items that I only used for a short period of time. While Reviews cover final items that I have reviewed intensively.

LINKS:

For all my videos I decided not to include links for the products. Everyone is living in different countries and therefore has to deal with different shipping and customs fees. That is why I would advice everyone just to Google the product within their country to find the best deals. For instance: I live in Germany, It wouldn’t make sense to give you a German link while you might be living in USA or Asia. I hope that is understandable.

The milk comparison really puts it into perspective!

I got that pouch since several months now and i completely agree, it's quite big. However, I am using it almost on a daily basis without any travel or outside use. When travelling, the pouch is in fact big enough to carry a switch (with joycons removed) and all my tech cables and other stuff in one place. At home... well, sounds silly but the pouch is "standing" when fully opened and that's just perfect for a kind of "organized" drawer directly on the table where i can toss the cables/usb keys/... when i am not using them or grab them quickly from it when needed.
(also quite expensive)

As someone who works in a hotdesk office I can say this pouch is the perfect size. And in my opinion you can NEVER have too many pockets.

Also the weatherproof material was chosen because this pouch can be used as a sling with peaks straps, four day trips or as a camera bag.

I got it after backing the kickstarter campaign and have been using it ever since. Yes, it's bulky and a bit rigid, I would love it to be a bit more expandable when you fill it with stuff but overall it's the best tech pouch I've ever used :)

I immediately knew it was going to be too bulky for me as far as travel goes. I use mine to keep things organized at home. It works great for that, I like the Aer slim pouch for travel.

I'll admit I'm a Peak Designs fan. I love my Travel Backpack, Travel Duffel, packing cubes and yes, Tech Pouch. I've had the Tech pouch for well over a year and it's been fantastic. Is it bulky? Yes. You're absolutely correct on that. I travel as a Sales Engineer and to be able to pull out my laptop and have all gear needed next to me already organized and easy to find makes it a perfect travel when I'm ready to work. It sits on the desk and the fold-out, origami design is aesthetically pleasing and a joy to use. It nests in my travel backpack along with my packing cubes and dopp kit when traveling long distances but sits alone with my laptop in a smaller backpack when heading into the office or customer site. I don't take it out when on an airplane as I usually rely on a smaller Topo Designs accessory bag to carry my travel essentials (airpods, battery charger & cables, microfiber cloth & breath mints) when boarding a flight. But the perfect use case for me is as a desk side companion to keep gear readily available and well organized.

Great video as always Bo! Keep up the amazing work.

All the hype surrounding this pouch made me think that I needed one of these. I think I'll continue using the field pouch, thx for the honest review!

I’ve used the tech pouch for about a year now. I personally would not use it for edc but i find more use for it when i travel. I use this to put in not just my tech and wires, but also my little survival travel kit that ive streamlined to its most essential items (small pen, mini led flashlight, etc). Overall, yes its bulky and can get heavy but i rest easy knowing my stuff is protected and organized the way i like it.

I have this pouch for over a year. Although I agree with your review, I have tried to use smaller pouches and I always ended up going back to the peak design one, otherwise I have to carry several pouches which I dont like either

I love it! I have it in my Peak Design Everyday Backpack 30l version 1 on the lowest 'compartment'.
The PD backpack is used for work, so I normally use it everday and it's good to know that you have all your adapters/cables/battery pack with you all the time.
Even better when you travel, just grab it an you know you have everything with you!

Agree with almost all of your points. I love mine but a couple of years in and I still haven’t managed to fully organise to the point where I don’t have to go routing about inside trying to find whatever I’m trying to find. Always thought I had a mental block but after watching this video I realise it’s probably not just me.

I have the tech pouch, but it mostly stays home and is my bigger storage for all cables and sorts, the one I take with my in my bag is the field pouch, it's much lighter and has just enough pockets to get the essentials. The new field pouch v2 is even better with the smaller pockets and included strap. I would maybe take the tech pouch in my carry-on for a trip but in the backpack I try to keep the weight to a minimum.

Really love the form factor. Use this as my EDC with sling strap attached really ease everything. I carry my smartphones, sunglass, Bluetooth earphone, keys, wallet, multi-tools, cables and sometimes powerbank. When travelling can put passport and airline ticket. Furthermore the water resistance is top notch. Once the bag was soaking wet due to heavy rain, but item inside remained dry. One nitpick would probably be the zipper not that robust.

I carried this to South Africa & Madagascar in my Atlas camera back pack. It is bulky and could be slimmer but there’s a perfect spot in my bag for it. It carried every thing I needed perfectly. And when I’m home it acts as a good place to store cables & accessories safely. I think it’s great & recommend, but if you’re trynna go more slim with great quality take a look at Belroy.

I agree with you. Recently, I purchase the Sterkmann which is the same size as Peak Design but found it large. I decided to purchase the Bellroy Classic Pouch for daily use. The Peak Design size is great if I’m going out with my laptop, if not I only need a few items and can use a smaller pouch.

Omg I love the plantmilk comparison!! I immediately tried it out and it works for my bag, thankyou!

Thanks for the great video Bo. I've had the pouch for ages and used to use it for weekly travel for work while we still could. It lasts really well and still looks as good as when I started using it. I agree with your comments about loading it and I've learned to put less in it each week because if it's stuffed full it does become bulky.

I’ve used the pouch in sling mode as a daily driver on several trips when you can attach their straps via the anchor attachments. The design is good enough as a sling for work when i don’t need to bring my laptop. That’s a fair observation on the bulkiness though, I wish it wasn’t as thick for my use case on some occasions but the weight is fine. I wished it had a two-way zipper so i can wear it on either side. 😊

I have one and I agree with your assessment. I'm interested in reasonable alternatives but I haven't found anything comparable.

Totally agree with your review. I love and hate mine at the same time. It feels bulky even when it is not full. Plus using the UK plug for electronics bulk it further
