I am so grateful to everyone who is sharing their tips & recipes here! It isn’t my culture & I just feel so lucky we are in a day & age where not only do I get to cook & eat food the majority of which is not from UK/Canada, I am lucky enough to be able to learn the proper way to do so by ppl who actually are a part of those particular cultures. Food is such an amazing way to experience traditions that aren’t your own!

Girl that’s the exact way I eat it every time, but if you want to kick it up a notch, fry some diced garlic up and put a big pile on top of your porridge. I crave it once a week because of the cronchy fried garlic 🧄 🤤

Malaysian here! We eat it with hot rice and sambal kicap(soy sauce sambal).

Soy sauce sambal recipe
Soy sauce(mix sweet and salty)
2-3 cloves garlic(raw or you can air fry it a bit if you don't like the spicy aftertaste of garlic)
1/2-1 chilli.
1-2 key lime(juice)
Optional: raw sliced onion or shallot

Use mortar and pestle to crush garlic and chilli together. Once it's fully mixed, add soy sauce and key lime juice. Taste it first. If it's delicious, then it's great!

Eat the sambal with the century egg as well as hot rice. Then you will have a nice enjoyable meal.

Actually it tastes better like this because this type of egg has a very strong flavor so it's overwhelming on its own while rice porridge is very plain on its own so they balance eachother which makes it taste amazing

Actually, when you boil the egg along with the congee, it will cook it and mellow out the flavor. Cuz sometimes it gives off a crazy sulphur taste. But when you cook it, it turns into the umami flavour that tastes good!!!

It’s delicious❤ When I was younger I would always get sick and she would always make the egg in porridges and it delicious ❤ I still eat it❤ the outside has a jelly texture and the inside has a creamy texture
