I've suffered racism in 3 different cities in Italy out of 5 cities I've been to. It's the main reason why I'll probably never go to Italy ever again.

I wouldn't waste my money in a country where they are racist. Your money is contributing to their economy yet they treat you badly. Sadly, segments of Italian society are racist.

Glad you have told your story. I won't be making a visit to Italy. It can ruin a holiday. This is why I stick to Turkey and the Carribbean.

More people need to speak up, thank you for sharing bro ❤️

I'm truly sorry that you went through this experience. I 've known about Italy's racism but I've never experienced any racism there although I do recall locals looking at me in Milan and Venice - I think this issue is more common in the northern parts of Italy. Milan was actually my least favourite place in Italy. But to my surprise, many Italians have been very nice towards me especially in Rome and locals in Southern Italy even though some knew I am a Muslim. I hope you have visited Rome National Mosque as it is beautiful.
I have travelled to well over 30-odd countries and the only time I've experienced any racism was in France

9:25 I know how it feels, happened to me as well in Italy Naples on march 2023. I was in a crowded public gallery where everybody was talking, and an italian dude (who was a stranger to me) randomly accused me of stuff I've never did, telling me I wasn't respecting the queue, all of this bc he was attempting to steal my turn, when I told him the truth and about how I was there way before him(he wasn't even in line with the rest of the people and was on the far right of the queue), he told me that I shouldn't talk....The nerve....so who the heck was him to tell me I should not speak in a public place, especially after the fact it was him who bothered me in the first place...I deeply dislike people like him

Not surprised. I've had similar experience in Venice with my cousins. Never again will I be visiting Italy and I'm hoping more are aware and would stop visiting this place

That's disgusting bro.
I have probably mentioned previously that I'm white so apparently this situation doesn't apply to me. It certainly does and has happened more than once.
One thing we do well in the UK is that we're British, regardless of skin colour or religion.

No need to justify yourself brother. I face just as much racism in Switzerland. When I told any of my European "friends" about some incidents, they denied it's racism (despite the fact that there is hardly anything European about my facial features or skin tone or passport)

I just got back from Italy after spending 5 nights there. I can honestly say it was the best experience of my life. The people were so respectable and friendly As a Pakistani Muslim I didn't experience racism or discrimination once. Lovely people you just have to respect the cultures and traditions.

It's difficult to make a judgement based on only one person's account of a situation. I've been to Italy many times and have had issues with authority there, and I'm white. Most were actually to do with taking photos in forbidden places (though it was not indicated). But again, it wouldn't surprise me as I have witnessed direct racism in Italy when we went into a restaurant and our black friend was asked to leave, so we all left.

Not surprised sadly. Italians are not known for being the most tolerant.

Its extremely unfortunate when something like this happens on holiday, where you're supposed to be relaxing and just enjoying yourself. Eventhough there are beautiful buildings and amazing people there, even the potential for an incident like this to occur would put off a lot of people from going.

Where is the love that preachers talk about? No wonder people are turning their backs on Christianity!

Were you wearing shorts above or under the knee? Shorts in churches are allowed only if they cover your knees. Trousers are even better than shorts. As for your skin colour, the both of you are quite fair skinned. There are thousands of Italians with your same skin colour, especially in southern Italy in areas which were colonized by the Arabs. Without knowing what was originally being said in Italian, it’s quite hard to guess the whole situation.
Once you were inside there were two arrows: the one on the right was for people who wanted to pray, the one on the left was for tourists. This is what's on the website: "In the area beside the Holy Virgin altar, it’s forbidden to disturb the cult and the pray. Inside the Cathedral it’s possible to take pictures (only for personal use and not for commercial purpose) but it’s forbidden during the religious celebrations."

What's surprising is I didn't experience any racism in Italy even though I've heard a lot of stories but experienced tonnes of racism in Dubai which is so sad considering they're fellow Muslims they just treat Indians Pakistanis and bengalis like dirt

I share your sympathy, but I am not convinced that all Italians are racist. In fact they are one of the most friendliest and warmest people around.
