What IS the most needed blood type?

The truth is every blood type is needed. The better question is, “how can I get the most out of blood donation based on my blood type.”

Here’s a simple run down for you:

🟣O- is the universal blood type and can be given through whole blood or Power Red donation.

🟣O+ can be given to anyone with a positive blood type and can be given through whole blood or Power Red donation.

🟣AB+ and AB- are universal plasma donors

🟣A+ and B+ can make their biggest impact by giving platelets

🟣No, A- and B-, we didn't forget about you but this video can only be so long (and we only have six shirts)! You can make your biggest impact through a whole blood or Power Red donation.

I used to donate all the time. I knew I was a problem and always gave blood. I have O+ and they were always glad to be able to give. I gave for about 10 yesrs and then they told they found I could not give any more. That was back in the 70's. I felt cheated because they really needed blood. I often wonder if I gave my condition to someone. I hope not. It doesn't kill, just causes pain.

In college level Anatomy and Physiology class. It is emphasized that O- is universal packed red blood cells donor.

That whole blood is only for use in exact same type transfers.
