In 1936, a unique jawbone with large teeth was discovered by a palaeontologist in Sterkfontein and Kromdraai caves in South Africa; a new humanlike, grass-eating creature that is very different from humans. In reality, what they believed to be the jawbone of an extraterrestrial alien belonged to a group of hominid species that roamed Africa between 2.6 and 1.2 million years ago. This former species, known as Paranthropus, belonged to the family Homininae, which also includes us and our nearest distant ancestors.
