Push in (towards the bike) while shifting!

I own a harley and i inadvertently over filled my primary fluid. I drained it to the proper level and that took care of the problem.

I’ve been dealing with that problem, I guess you could say and now I’ll try right under the linkage leaver itself. Thanks for the tip.

Japan bikes go into neutral easily when you stop. Shift up hard or easy and it goes right in.

For argument purposes, I believe the owners manual, at least for 5spd big twins, states to shift down to first and then lift up half notch and neutral should be a cinch. Trying to get a biggie into neutral from second gear is darn near impossible. Also, a lazy shift will not be rewarded. A sporty can be put in neutral from second but could be difficult. Best to do the same as big twins. If you downshift while coming to a stop, typically, the gears mesh right in without a hitch.

As far as oil for the tranny, I always used the recommended weight of gear oil.

i've had a few nonda motorcycles, and one kawasaki, none of them gave me fits about going into neutral.
i've had a 1200 sporty, and a softail custom, neither of them gave me an issue going into neitral.
however, my current ride, a 2012 fatboy, would not go into neutral unless i shut it off.
i cured this issue by changing the transmission oil to the hd synthetic oil. no more neutral issues.

Cool tip, but it still kind of looked like it was being lifted by the same rubber extension part. I could be wrong!

Kawasaki transmissions are different, the design makes finding neutral almost automatic...

You can fix this by getting a Kawasaki.
