Homeskoolin’ Volume 162, Tom Bukovac, “You Guys In A Band??”

Television's own Uncle Larry, absolutely exuberant about finally being home and being reunited with his trusty old '38 bone…waxes rhapsodic about that one thing we have ALL thought about since we were little kids….what it's like to really be in a band.

(and now, shift to "first person")

Now that touring is finally calming down and fall is on the way (praise God) it's time to put some focus on some projects that i started on a while back, such as this little instrumental EP that dear Guthrie Trapp and myself are putting together…it's so much fun.....here’s a little snippet from one of the three tracks we already have "in the can"....gonna go back in soon and do some more.

Also, I couldn’t help but add in a few other crazy things at the end of this vid...a dumb meme that cracks me up... " I AM THE JUAN PERCENT"....oh and my alltime favorite thing that my sweet little boy Leo ever drew for his dear old dad….a totally random partial list he made at school one day of some of our favorite songs we like to jam in the car…precious keepsake.

"you got another thing comin"
"black sabbath"
"hot rod lincoln"
"iron man"
"rock and roll music"
"yellow submarine"
"starship trooper"
"hard day's nite"
"breakin' the law"
"don't stand so close to me"
"behind my camel" (instrumental by the police off zenyatta mondatta)
and one more i could never read

Thanks again for supporting the channel folks….i am doing everything legally allowed to show you guys whatever i can…absolutely free of charge of course.

Why am i doing it?
Because music has been really good to me in this life, and i feel like it’s the right thing to do to give it all back to a bunch of total strangers...
i hope you guys know how much i sincerely appreciate the little community we have built here ….
ya’ know, except for a few kids in the back of the room that get a little too excited at times (like Brock Thomas....man what a tool) we got something very real going here….i for one do not take it for granted.

Named after the founder the late Mr Bill May, Australian guitar maker from the late 40's. May - tone, they dropped the 'Y' and the 'E" shortened it to MATON is sounded MAY TON ..And it sounded great!

Hey Tom - I just recently found your channel from a story about you in Guitar Player. I’m a few years older than you and I’ve been playing for 45 years or so. Your playing is inspirational and the personal stories you tell are awesome whether it’s session work, stories from the road, gear history and more. Since I’m an “Old Skooler Home Skooler” I understand what a resource and gift a channel like this really is.

Back in the day when I first started playing (I’m sure you can relate) I was dying to know more about the bands and players that I loved. The only thing we had was the music and magazines. I wanted to know so much more. With todays technology, now you can! I can only imagine what it would have been like as a 17 year old kid watching Van Halen play in his kitchen, teach, answer questions and tell stories from sessions and the road! I hope the younger viewers of this channel understand how good they have it with a channel like this😀

Nothing like sleeping in your own bed. Right!?!
Those who know, know.
Tom,
You make this channel feel like the band everyone wishes they were in.
We are all a part of the experience because you take us along.
No, the road life isn't for everyone and it is clear in some of the comments, but most still come along for the ride.
This is a cool community because it reflects the content of the channel.😉
We all know that Ann and you are the band leaders and it shows across the board.
You all flow together as a group because it's genuine.👌
Very special indeed!
The random shit just adds a little spice.🤙
Enjoy your time home.🍻

And we really do appreciate it
Thanks again for everything you do!

Hey Buk, remember getting a call from Mark or Frank around 5 o'clock on a Monday asking or should I say telling you you're playing tonight with IDK who yet just bring your guitar? Blah, ha, ha!!! Doing gigs at the Cleveland Cafe called "pull it out of your azz night." A few of those gigs ended up really cool, classic & fun rocking with some of the best players Cleveland had to offer or never played with before. "Good Times!" +++Peace & Rock n' Roll 4 Your Soul Pal+++

Coolest cat in the cucumber bin my friend. Named after a drum, yet went on to be the Uncle of all guitarists. One day when all is said and done, there will be nothing left to do. Til then we might as well make some music right? Cause when the buffalos fight, the flies dont survive. Say no to drugs kids.

Something special happens, a bond that is hard to explain, when you share blood sweat and tears on stages. I saw some old buddies that I had hundreds of gigs with and got emotional. Totally understood.

Just got an invite to the Jim Irsay Colt's Kickoff event this Friday, quite a lineup: In addition to the Jim Irsay Band regulars (Tom, Mike Mills, Kenny Wayne Shepard, Kenny Aronoff) I see Ann Wilson, John Mellencamp, John Hiatt, and Buddy Guy are playing. If you're near Indianapolis, the event is free, you just need a ticket.

Thank you Uncle Larry! I’ve been playing for over 40 years and I don’t think anyone has managed to change my head as much as the Homeskoolin journey has! Thank you man.

I've been playing a Maton Custom Shop "Messiah" model (now the Tommy Emmanuel model, I believe) and it is the best live and recording acoustic I've had in 50 years of playing.

Thanks Tom for all you do for us. I’m 60 and have been playing since I was 13. The past couple years watching Homeskoolin has really taken my playing to another level. Thanks again Tom.

Tom, you’ve given us so many gems. The listening tip is right up there at the top. Seems so obvious in theory, more difficult in practice for the mediocre at best (included). Another fundamental to keep at the forefront. No shortcuts, but you continue to draw the map for us. Thank you!

Tom, Thank you for sharing all the rehearsal gems, practice vids, and concert footage. It is so amazing how you guys are just on the same wavelength no matter what happens! You sound fantastic and to your point in your video, it takes a bit of time to get to that stage as a band! Luckily you have hung together to hopefully enjoy that level of a musical high. It is truly a rush to play to that level and get to savor it. I hope this lasts for a very long time! You have all earned it!!Thank you Tom! Play on young lad!

Thank you for all you’ve done in this little community! I’ve learned more about music here in the last couple of years than I have anywhere else, and also a few great life lessons and stories.

One more thank you for the tip on the Black Mountain picks. As a real klutz when it comes to switching between picking and finger style (endless dropped picks) these things are a Godsend! They’ve already made a big difference in my playing.
