Nothing is left out in this deep dive into exactly how I built this tiny bunkhouse cabin in the woods of Alaska...with very little building experience. I cover foundation, framing, roofing, insulating, doors/windows, wiring, interior/exterior siding, flooring, log bunk beds, trim and more.

Full Build Start to Finish Video:

Big thanks to @truckhouselife for helping me out!

Hello Matt, I must say that for being an amature carpenter you did an amazing job and described your work like a master carpenter. You made some very good points on certain techniques that you used and I learned some new tricks that will be very helpful if I build a cabin. Overall I'll give this video and your skills an A+. Looking forward to the next one keep up the great work.

New subscriber - love this channel! Very different beautiful part of the world from Australia where I live). I love all the ins and outs of how things get made or done. (I've never even seen snow ahhh so it'll be extra nice to watch on hot days here) ☺️

Holy smokes, I've been binging a lot of construction, tiny home, and log cabin videos for a month or two, and buddy, yours is far and away the best! Informative, comprehensive, friendly, great production — the whole shebang! Thanks! 😃

Hey Man,
Timmy from Truck House Life just turned me onto your blog. I like it so of course I subscribed.
Unfortunately I'm now an EX- Sourdough from Anchorage and Sitka. Moved up there during the building of the pipeline in "74".
Your cabin is about identical x 2. It was the up by Big Lake for hanging out when I'd flat track snow machines
I did a 12-12 roof and over built the rafters for using the area for a sleeping loft. For roofing I used a product called Rapid Roof that was like a super thick plastic paint over their base cloth sealed to the osb. 300% elasticity and cures quickly. Using a man lift and a 2ft wide paint roller i put on 6 top-coats, left it white and painted the exterior walls white also. Plus I put on white window shutters. In the winter from my front property line and looking through about 40ft of trees it blended in. I admit that I got a lot of comments both good and bad. For heat, there was of course a wood stove, a 18" x 24" propane catalytic heater and a army surplus diesel heater. No electricity until the 4th year other than a diesel gen set that was army surplus also
Keep up working on your dreams buddy and enjoy life. And never leave living in Alaska because you'll never, not miss it !!!

so glad that you used a vapor barrier! it amazes me how many on youtube skip this very important step. Mold and rot is a huge concern.

I am going off grid soon and this will be my main reference video on framing a proper 120sqft homestead cabin in San Bernardino, Ca. (Zoning is different of course) but your build integrity is great! Not many people mentioned the importance of galvanized and decking screws! I was going to totally miss this and then duh!!! 😂 and also glue all you nails. Good work!
