I have been trying to learn the Cyrillic alphabet by myself for a while, the first (and only) letter I have learned is soft-sign, it took me 10 months of study but I think I've finally got it - soft-sign is fairly easy to learn when you don't know any other letters.

I'm having a hard time imagining the difference between a soft and hard "с". I know in English a soft or hard "s" would sound like "z" or "s". Are there English sounds this can be compared to?
