Did the Compost Worms Eat Meat?

The worms are eating protein sources. They ate eggs for the first 4 months not we move on to include meat. Experiment #2 is where the worms are fed only what I find in my yard for free. Do the worms thrive or not?

Interesting Ann....I never have meat, eggs or cheese going bad. I guess with 2 adults only I can control what is bought and cooked, etc. We are unusual in how little we throw away.
But you're taking on challenges and proving that so many myths are just that.

I’ve tried this experiment before myself in my outdoor bathtub bin. The black soldier flies moved in and devoured the meat, heated up the bin to the point the worms were leaving. That’s what lead me to Bokashi. I like you am on a mission to reduce what I send to the landfill. And Bokashi is a solution to the cooked food, meat, fish, shrimp peals etc…. Buried Bokashi creates some extremely nutrient rich soil..

I did a fridge clean out. I think there were some bacon peices that snuck in from old chili and chicken nuggets that the daughter never got around to eating. But I fed it to them anyway. I did not notice any problems either.

That was/is a cool experiment!! Clearly they were enjoying the meat & eggs with all the worm balls around the egg carton! I only heard you mention the smell once, was it a faint smell or really nasty? Awesome video & experiment!!🪱🪱🪱

Did you crack the hard boiled egg? I think it might rot in the shell and create issues

Right when you mentioned how you are not dragging things out I was about to comment on how effectively you were working up the suspense! :) Interesting feeding - I agree that they are doing nicely on it 👍🏻 By the time you read this, you may have already addressed it... but there's _something_ about the thumbnail that doesn't seem quite right - luckily whipping it into shape should be quick & easy _(if you choose to do so)_ 👍🏻

Those raw eggs will be gone in no time 😀. I gave mine a couple of raw eggs once - it's a lot of food for them, but they made them vanish so fast they never got the chance to get smelly!

Interesting . I have never done the raw egg . I have done the hard boiled, fried, poached and scrambled but never raw .

Another idea of how to not waste eggs.... Maybe eat them yourself?

The meat did pretty well, I think when you did the eggs you only gave them a small hole/crack. Worms are awesome. I like this protein bin. 😁🪱
