This is a How To video for installing a Mishimoto transmission cooler on a Ford F150 2015 and newer with the 6R80 transmission. This is a complex video that takes time and planning to replace the cooler, add an in-line filter, and change the transmission fluid.

A very seasoned transmission mechanic told me that the torque converter clutch in every 6R80 is going to eventually fail and the metals will then destroy the transmission. According to him, it doesn't matter how you take care of the fluid, and it doesn't matter how you drive it. You could baby it like grandma and keep the fluid bright pink (which is difficult since Mercon LV turns dark very quickly even under normal driving conditions) and it will still fail. You can expect to get between 100-150K out of them, max. I'm writing this in the middle of a 6R80 transmission swap in my 2016 F150. I also tow a camper. I do my own work, so I asked the transmission guy I know whether or not I was insane to try to swap transmissions in a driveway, considering my experience level. He gave me his opinion of 6R80s, Ford, and the auto industry in general. Thanks for this video. I'm replacing my transmission cooler and all the lines and this will help me figure out how to get my grill apart.

Thanks for the video! I ordered the mishimoto and the proper lines from ford today. Plan to add the trans cooler to my 16 F150 5.0 this weekend. It’s an XLT that does not have the heavy duty towing package added so I am adding this to prepare for hauling a travel trailer.

Good video, thank you. Couple questions:
1. Did you leave that in-line filter installed indefinately?
2. Can you change the filter without removing the grill again?

Do you have a one year review of how your transmission works with this cooler? Thanks.

Hello, I am battling the same problem with our camper. We have the HD payload package on a 2015 5.0. We live in northern Idaho and every road goes way up or way down. I did service the transmission with Amsoil and a new filter, it helped on the acceleration shudder from a stop to speed, after the second drain and fill, but still have high Temps on the transmission when pulling big grades. I'm am divided between the AFE aluminum pan or the cooler? Whats your thoughts?

What temps were you getting before this install. My transmission gets up to 230 not even towing with no cooler installed.

What is the temperatures drop with larger trans fluid cooler? I saw you were getting 240F before but what after?

Did it make a difference? I don’t have a cooler currently. Just bought the one you took off actually for my 2016 f150 lariat 5.0. Wondering if i should’ve spent extra for the moshi

Chevy has the same problems but worse. But you can change the thermostat on them pretty cheap and it will run much cooler. Still won't fix the fact that they are junk though.
