I like this Minisforum's design, I hope they keep iterating over this

It would be very interesting if you compared fps on windows and SteamOS on the same hardware. And as always thanks for nice video

Just converted my SER6 Pro to SteamOs after watching this. Basically the same specs as yours but without the GPU. I really don't know what I'm doing throughout the whole process, this is my first time ever dealing with linux. But just basing it off your re-image steps, it just worked flawlessly somehow on first attempt and that's how easy it really was.

Plugged that thang on ethernet and steam linked it to my android handheld. Basically now I have a much much more portable steamdeck, running at a constant 20w+ TDP with almost twice the performance. With my relatively light handheld that can max out 7-12 hours of unplugged gameplay, this has been revolutionary for me.

Valve is the best out there man, releasing SteamOS is such a blessing. Now I may never touch grass

I would probably mount that thing behind a screen.

I just bought a Minisforum UM680S "refurbished" with 1x 16GB DDR5 4800MHz and a 256GB nvme for 270EUR incl. shipping and 25% sales tax. Great little machine! I added an extra 16GB DDR5 4800MHz stick for 42$ and overclocked the memory to 5400Mhz. So now I have 32GB DDR5 Dual Channel and way better GPU Performance. Nowhere near as fast as this one, but from my tests results it's around 50% faster than the Steam Deck in games on average, but way faster in CPU-bound titles. Since the computer is "always-on", double acting as a HTPC-/File- & Cloud Server + video game console, I wanted zero fan noise when idle. This was possible with some BIOS fan curve tweaks as well as installing coreCtrl in Linux with automated performance profiles. Defaulting to 400MHz GPU and 2400MHz CPU during idle, and once I start Steam this changes to 2200MHz GPU and 4500MHz CPU. :) It's great! silent when idle and lighter loads, and relatively quiet when couch gaming with my gf. :)

Steam OS install on an AMD APU also works well. I installed Steam OS 3.8 via the recovery image on a Minisforum UM690 Pro. Really pleased with the performance. Makes a great Steam Games console once paired with an Xbox controller.

would love to see a new DIY market for miniPCs like this. Companies selling mini cases and more ITX mobo models. Basically, with the new Halo APUs, everything will be integrated on the mobo, no more big cases.

I'd really like to see Valve add an auto HDR type of feature to SteamOS. It would be amazing for the Steam Deck OLED and these sorts of PCs.

I'd take a 1440p image with HDR over a 4K image without, any day.

Guys... just let it sink it once more that we now have Linux as a GAMING platform! How cool is that?

That's a gorgeous little PC, though I feel like dusting it could be a potential challenge. I don't have a dusty house though

FSR/DLSS Auto at 1440p is basically "Balanced" if you do the pixel peep. It's not dynamic.

Just a quick word on using the additional NVME slot for added storage. You need to do a few things to be able to use it as a Steam Library. You need to create a directory to use as a mount point using Konsole (terminal). In my case I used the following command: mkdir /var/mnt/games. Then in KDE partition manager I set the permissions for my formatted drive to anyone, and set the mount point to the directory that I created. KDE partition manager will handle the FSTAB automatically. Restart the system and now the additional drive will be auto mounted at startup and will be able to be used as a stream library.
