Just for clarification on the rules of the monster, closing the front door would not protect Jack. The bedroom is the only safe place he can be between 10:04pm to 8:13am, and as he made it into the bedroom and shut the door just in time, he would've been too late if he spent even half a second closing and locking the front door.

Bro shouldn't have opened the door. He should've had messaged Jack as proof. Whatever is out there can mimic the sounds as it can observe from the outside what Jack is doing. But such an entity cannot logically send messages as the only defining characteristic from the movie is that it can imitate sounds of real life as a direct response of the person's actions, but never the things the person can do that's beyond the entity's control such as sending Jack a message and receiving it back, which is fully proof that it isn't Jack.
