Diamond Stone Sharpening a $uper Rare Stanley No. 2 Plane

If you are like me, one of the many people who are unsure about Diamond Sharpening, or even skeptical that it could ever do as good a job as the "tried and true old system" of sharpening, I can tell you that when done properly, diamond sharpening give stunning results, in fact, the best sharpening my chisels and wood planes have ever had, and I thought I was fussy about my sharpening ... now I really am!!

how thick is the ruler? That's the most important part for the sharpening process, in this case.

M Power offers 300/1200 as you used, as well as 600/1200 and 300/600 and a more expensive three "stone" set. You're happy with 300/1200 diamonds - why did you use all those grits with the "scary sharp" system? Good video, Colin. Thank you for sharing.

That steel ruler method is called, “The Charleswortth Ruler Trick.” Named after the woodworker, David Charlesworth. He was a very famous woodworker from the UK in the 1970’s. Btw, when you use the ruler trick, you actually should sharpen along the length (parallel) to the stone, not perpendicular to it. You should also keep the ruler on the edge of the stone and the blade within about 1/4” of the opposite side of the stone.
