Because so many people overpaid for homes even while loan rates were low, I believe there will be a housing catastrophe because these people are in debt. If housing costs continue to drop and, for whatever reason, they can no longer afford the property and it goes into foreclosure, they have no equity since, even if they try to sell, they will not make any money. I believe that many individuals will experience this, especially given the impending mass layoffs and rapidly rising living expenses.

My wife and I are ready to buy a home. We have a nice pile of cash, however I'm not going to pay 2-3 times what the place is worth just for the sake of calling myself a tenant of the state. We pay 1700 a month for a 900 sq ft place, the same size to buy would be 3 times that amount where we live. So yeah, no death pledge for me at this time.

Yep payments don't change but boy do the insurance and property taxes change.

I’ve been looking for three years now and if I buy it will cost $1500 more per month than renting for the same size home. That’s after 10% down and me covering closing cost. It’s impossible to buy a home right now. They say the market will correct after two years of 20% increases in home prices, but nothing has happened. So disappointing

I've always felt the best time to buy your own home, to live in, is when you find the perfect home, at a price you can comfortably afford long term. If you truly bought the house for your family, then who cares what anybody thinks it's worth? It's priceless to the family living there; it's your home. Very different for investment real estate, of course.

I brought a home 9 years ago cos I could see this coming the lady at the bank laughed at us saying we would never find a place for under $100, 000 found 1 for $85, 000 got it down to $75, 000 and the mortgage is only $75 pw can't even rent a room around here for that now my house is worth about 350, 000 putting the $ I save into sliver a business and next investment home

When u find a foreclosure and add 300% for maintenance and property tax increases that u can pay then u can buy that house. Never buy a condo

If so is looking to own their own home you need to sell whatever you can (especially collectibles) and lock in a lease for the next 3 years. Take your cash and turn it into precious metals and then you will be able to buy many many houses at the end of the 3 years.

After doing the math, rates would have to go down to 1.50% to make it worth it to me to refi a 2.875% which we bought at a great price as well. We've overpaid the principal ever since our first payment was due in summer 21 knocking years off the life of the mortgage paying far more towards principal than interest in just 3 years which takes at least 10 years to do just by making the reg agreed upon payments. Next COLA we will add even more towards the principal paying my house off even faster.
