Thanks for posting this. I am a tenured Philosophy faculty member who is trying to figure out how to get more majors, and I really appreciated the conversation. I also appreciated the statement at the end about hiring, namely the businesses say typically that they hire people not majors. That is an incredibly important thing to convey and I am glad that I heard it from you. Thank you thank you

With AI era. I think Philo, Humanities, Socioloy in particular will become usefull again. These courses are the needed skilles to be the managers of AI agents to arrive at something useful.

I have a degree in philosophy from Swarthmore. I bought into the idea that I could get my degree and figure out what I wanted to do later. Big mistake. Eventually I realized that studying philosophy is like driving a Ferrari: 99% of the time it is either totally pointless, counterproductive, or potentially fatal. But that 1% of the time you can use it for the purpose for which it’s designed, there’s nothing like it in the world.
