I'm pretty sure that "embargo" is more likely used in the context of trade, as an economic sanction, than in media.

Embargo is a temporary or sometimes permanent preventive measure affecting usage. It can be better understood if we compare it to seizure. Seizure deprives the owner from usage AND possession. I hope this contributes to the meaning of embargo. Thanks for the video, very useful.

Sometimes they put an embargo a certain date because thats when they want the buzz to start building. So for example the movie you saw 1.5 months early may have been good but if they let people talk about it that early the hype doesnt hit when people can actually go see it, so they might want reviews out a week before the movie comes out for example. just something else to think about
