Thanks, very useful. Note - The transition effect left to right was momentarily confusing as if we were switching to another screen.

@BigEric42 Well hello there! Thank you for commenting on the tutorial! I think you will find that Power Director 9 is an excellent upgrade from Power Director 8. There are some things still to get sorted out, but it is really fun to work with. The 100 video tracks is really cool! My FAVORITE is that you can put TITLES into ANY video track and use transitions inbetween the titles. This can create some dramatic title effects not possible in PD8. Thanks for you feedback!

I'm content with PD9. I give you 1 advice. I put the PD9 screen on a 2nd (external) screen which is put in vertical position.change that by the Config setup. It is easier to work when you use more timelines.

@ATTIEQ An animated gif file is not a video file or a simple graphic file. It has sequential frames that are associated with it. May of the non linear video editing suites don't allow for importing of these type of gifs. But it doesn't hurt to ask.
Here's what I do to import an animated gif file (it needs QuickTime Pro):

1. Open Quicktime
2. File > Open > locate .gif file
3. Save as self contained QuickTime Movie
4. Open PD & import movie file.

Thanks for the great tutorials, is there any chance you could do one on music and sounds. i have been using pinnacle studio and it has some great sound effects. Unfortunately it is a slow as hell. pd 9 is much faster. can you point me in the direction of how to do music and sounds please?

Captain Kevin has spoken... Now that wasn't so bad, was it? Well done. Now I know it wasn't paranoia when all you Prefects seemed to leave us mere mortals to play alone with PD8. Now, how buggy is PD9 ? That is the question... If you have now been assimilated to the Collective (as seems the case to the casual observer), I don't expect an answer. But a candid bit of insider feedback would be most impressive. I have been wounded by the bleeding edge of technology before!

@MRchocolateMONKEYman In the format types on the Cyberlink Website in the Power Director 9 Product section...it lists mkv as a "New" acceptable file type. This may not include "all" mkv file types. It is similar to Cyberlink stating that it accepts avi's...well it has trouble with some types of avi files depending on the audio and/or video codecs associated with them.

@MRchocolateMONKEYman
1. yes
2. It has been increased to 15 minutes.
3. I believe it is the same 150 transitions as PD8.
4. Yes..It has a Magic Music tool, powered by SmartSound..it's pretty good for the price of the software. I am not complaining. More default selections than in PD8

@cutegirlsema You overlay by using one of the other 99 video/audio tracks. Same process as using a PIP track except it is called a different name. One the video is placed on another video track, you then select "modify" and can resixe and/or liking.

@matkechik 100 Video Tracks, Audio Editor built -in, Preview screen in High definition, application is now 64-bit so not limited to 4 gig maximum RAM, Use transitions on ALL 100 video tracks, Place Titles on any video track, just to name a few. I Love it and have found it to be a pleasure to run on my system.

This question is random but is it possible to Key a video on a green screen using this program, because at 1:08 it shows a light bulbe with a weird square background, and on my friends program, i think it was after effects, it showed that same background when we went to key out the green screen.

cyberlink power director does not support gif images with their original properties.its uses gif images as still images.there should be support for animated gif files as well in cyberlink power director.

Why do so many posters feel the need to add music to their show, it is very distracting when I am trying to hear what is being said. Some are so loud, I just turn off straight away. I do not want to be blasted out. It is so much better for NO background music and then I can hear clearly.

@pkwentworth

Excellent tutorial, very informative. But why the very annoying background muzak? So unnecessary.

I use 3-7 tracks/layers in my videos and lower the opacity so that I can see through them. However, it's very glitchy and I can hardly play my videos. Once the video is on youtube, it's OK, but I really need to know what my video looks like. Can someone please help?
