I've spent hours over the last three days trying to get an operating My Passport Wireless to connect to the app via Android with sporadic luck. Now I'm connected to WiFi through the device but when I try and use My Cloud app (Android) if CAN'T FIND THE DEVICE! I haven't seen this poor an instruction set and less intuitive product connection and set-up since the late 1990s. WTF? How hard can it be to design a simple f'ing WiFi set-up nowadays? Not at all impressed. I don't have days to piss around with this as if I'm learning DOS! About one day away from being boxed up and returned.

I noticed that NO ONE is getting their questions answered here (bad publicity move, WD.) I will try anyway, dopey me. I try to connect to the wireless network "My Passport" and it asks for a WiFi password. Huh? What is it? Damn waste of money if you ask me.

I’m trying to access my files using File Explorer on Windows wirelessly. I use to be able to do it, but now I’m redirected to the browser. How do I access them using File Explorer?

This thing must have been a total flop, mine never would broadcast a wireless signal, I just use it a a usb drive waste of money I guess.

the most infuriating product i have ever used

dhcp does not work so well with some apps

choose a fixed IP address.
example:
your routhers (wireless) IP is 192.168.0.1
My Passport ip address:
ip - 192.168.0.255
subnet - 255.255.255.0
dns - 192.168.0.1

if it has gone all worked up and you can not get in touch with the My Passport, pusch down the on/off and the other button for 10 sec . until the reboot now are you waiting for 20 sec, now you can search for wifi My Passport and log on to it, now you are into it again without your files are lost or deleted..

When I go to connect it to wifi, it asks for a network key! Where is the network key??

Just bought this device. I was so excited, but it's way more complicated than they let on. It doesn't have an app for your PC. Only for tablets/phones. The only way to access the "my cloud" app on a computer is on a Mac. Sucks. I was excited to crack into this device, but now I'm forced to return it. I just wanted a 4TB drive to dump all of my files and get rid of the various dongles and etc. (people with thunderbolt drives know what I'm saying.... ) with a wireless hard drive. SUCKS!!!! UGH!!!

Stupid device. What isn't so obvious, is why you'd need to join your home network if the laptop is connected directly to the hard drive. And secondly, once the hard drive is connected, it is pretty complicated to then use the MyPassport as a hard drive.

When I insert SD card, all the contents go to the public folder by default!!! Why in the world would someone give the public access his private files??!

The device worked for the first 3 months and ever since then the wifi dosent work at all. tried connecting with WD once- did not receive a positive response. This is the same video that convinced me to buy this device. a very unpleasant experience.

hello i got a small concern I bought a Wd digital portable passport to use in my car since it comes with usb play and it doesn't work is there anyway a video can be made explaining or showing how to use the device in cars.

This is the best hard Drive I have ever seen. They are very reliable. I have not had a single issue in my life. I am buying another one soon.
