I heard someone say once the women who’ll survive the apocalypse are the ones who exercise to get rid of period cramps and I’ve lived by that ever since

In studies like this, if you’re in the control group and they find the treatment to be effective, they offer the treatment to you after!

I know for a fact this helps cause every month I'm lying on the floor in pain trying to find a position that helps and praying no one walks in on me cause I be looking a contortionist 💀💀

I love this man simply because he is comfortable enough on the internet to talk about things that 50% of society deals with periods should be talked about more and not treated like they're gross or weird thank you for being you❤❤❤

Curling up in a ball with a heating pad, chocolate, Dr. Pepper, and crying usually helps me.

Sometimes the pain can be so bad that you can't even stand up, let alone stretch or exercise

i was in the control group of a study for 8 years! they were studying the impact of adverse childhood experiences (ACE's) on the mental health of children as they grow into adolescence and adulthood. i had a normal and happy childhood, hence the control group. the first few years were pretty chill and easy, but once i started having mental health issues at thirteen, it almost felt like the psychology students were excited! "wow, the control person did exactly what we're studying!" i didnt mind their interest, and im actually glad that my depressed brain helped bring some good science into the world. and, the pictures of my brain as it developed helped my neurologist diagnose my chiari malformation! pretty cool experience, even in the control group.

33 is such a small sample size 🤭, but I’ve always been told certain exercises may help with cramps, so hopefully this helps someone else who gets cramps too. 🙏

This is way more wholesome than I was expecting it to be

The biggest injustice of having a uterus is how the thing that helps relieve cramps is the last thing one ever wants to do while on their period.

Now imagine if schools taught this in PE rather than forcing us to run laps despite feeling like throwing up and crying 😊

You have "Men should be willing to buy their girlfriends pads" energy and I love that about you.

Here's your friendly reminder that if your period is debilitating, advocate for yourself and get tested for endometriosis. Some minor pain is normal, but pain that incapacitates you or leaves you ill is not. You may get dismissed a lot bc as women we tend to get overlooked in the medical field but if you are suffering, you need to keep pushing. The reason endometriosis isn't as "common" is because women are being dismissed for their pain. Your health is important and your pain is real.

Hey, thanks for going out of your way to talk about something that doesn't affect you to help others. Need more people like you, man. ❤

As someone who had to take opioid painkillers due to the period pains... Some positions/stretches do help with mild to moderate pain, especially if it's the kind of cramps that spreads into the back, but it's also kind of a placebo effect - you stretch the muscles, so they possibly start to hurt and contract. The brain will focus on this sensation, minorizing other issues.
If only this would give a long time effect... I'd spend my whole life to find the best ways to use it. Unfortunately, these cramps can be some otherworldly type of torture

Would've been nice if school gym classes taught girls about this, and had them started on a healthy exercise regime that actually helped for something.

I do find that light exercise significantly improves my cramps, but sometimes the pain is just too bad to deal with without pills. So a balance of painkillers and light excercise is my go to pain reliever.

Hey hey! So I’m just a first semester med student, and this study does seem interesting. But please keep in mind that the original group was only 33 women. That means there were 11 women in each tested group, so their findings might not be generalizable or be right for you!
