Spirit: The Final Frontier. These are the journeys of a failed merger with Frontier. Its ongoing mission: to explore strange, new places for its aircraft to break down, to seek out new passengers and revenue streams, to boldly fly where budget travelers don’t want to go.

Even if you never fly Spirit, if they go under you’ll miss them when they are gone. They are an airline that keeps the legacy carriers honest with their pricing.

To simplify the difference between Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 Bankruptcy in one word each, 7 = Liquidation and 11 = Re-organization.

Antitrust policy is focused on limiting national market share, while the primary anti-competitive force in the airline market is the extent to which particular airlines are permitted to dominate particular airports. Many local monopolies do not add up to one competitive national market.

Doesn't help that their stereotype is "that budget airline where knife and gun fights break out."

i have flown a LOT, since covid, thanks to spirit. i have tried several of the low-cost airlines, but spirit has had the best combination of price and on-time performance. everyone in the family flies a lot, and spirit has been everyone's choice. hopefully spirit will continue.

I work 3 weeks, home for 1 week. I'm set up at both ends of this travel. So I only carry a small shoulder bag. Low cost airlines make a lot of sense for me. I have a travel stipend where money saved goes to my family. I have now paid off all debt so will occasionally splurge on a better seat. If only Spirit flew to my home airport in the northwest(Medford).

Pre-pandemic it cost $100 round trip to fly from New Orleans to Miami. I didn’t care about quality or service at that price. I Hope they make it out.

I’ll quote the Judge’s decision: “Spirit is a small airline. But there are those who love it. To those dedicated customers of Spirit, this one’s for you. Why? Because the Clayton Act, a 109-year-old statute requires this result — a statute that continues to deliver for the American people.”

Meanwhile-thousands could be out of jobs AND… those dedicated customers no longer will have spirit 🤦‍♂️

We have used spirit, I would say for 5 plus years now here in NH. We take 1 to 2 family trips to Florida every year. This is noexaggeration.I have saved well over $10000 Just in flight cost alone when I compare pricing for our trips. We have had almost zero issues flying spirit

Having just flown round trip on spirit from EWR-STT I rely on them for low cost travel. Our flights were on time and there were no snags. I do not like their new cost tiers but it does cost real money to operate the planes. By upselling key components of travel they allow cost sharing between travelers to increase the average fare.
Now if I could just bargain on my layover times…..

How do you lose pilots? Ask Spirit. With airlines in short supply of pilots, no pilot is going to put up with furloughs or being downgraded from pilot to first officer. If i was a pilot with spirit, i would be dusting off that resume very quickly.

3:17 As someone whose airport is CLT - where AA have over 90% market share, I can confirm it’s not a theory. I drive to GSP or CAE ~70 miles away and fly from there via CLT for around 30% less..
I get what the DOJ are/were doing, but it’s already a thing. Funnily enough, the remaining 10% at CLT is mostly Frontier and Spirit.

As a major airline pilot that occasionally has to commute on Spirit I would have very much preferred to see the JetBlue merger go through. That way the Spirit product would have been brought up to JetBlue standards.

Southwest isn’t the only airline that has never fill for bankruptcy. Alaska never did either

What's sad is that American airlines hasn't gone out of business yet. Terrible airline. At least people flying on Spirit airlines knew it was a very low fare, and expected to be treated poorly. American treats you poorly while charging full price. Screw that airline.

Spirit shows up way too often in bodycam police videos

Last time I flew Spirit, the flight attendant handed me two packets of almonds. No wonder they went bankrupt 😅

I guess I'm in the minority. I like Spirit. I don't fly a lot but my trips on Spirit have been exactly what I expected and at a very reasonable price, especially considering I have flow internationally using them. Planes were on time, clean and relatively new. My biggest complaint is the FLL airport is a zoo to fly into or out of but I'm not sure Spirit has much control over that.
