If I remember correctly, Tokyo was going to be the 3rd target if Japan did not surrender after the first 2 strikes.

I actually just visited the memorial park and museum in Hiroshima today. It was a lot to take in.

Japan when finding infants in Nanjing: yes. These kills will bring us honor in this war!"
Japan when they got the two big booms: "Wow that was over the top guys we had civilians here 🥺"

Tokyo was already destroyed by conventional bombs. And the damage was even WORSE than the damage caused in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Most of Tokyo had already been destroyed. They need cities with standing structures to gauge how destructive the nukes going to be. As simple as that.

Kyoto was spared due to cultural significance. One of the guys in charge of deciding where the bomb dropped had actually spent a few years living in Kyoto and understood that it was the Center of Japanese culture. He loved the city and also understood that Kyoto would be martyred if it was nuked so he made sure Kyoto was never to be considered.

Tokyo would've been next if Hiroshima and Nagasaki didn't make them surrender

People always remember the "2 suns" but in reality there were about 4.

The firebombing campaigns were arguably worse than the atom bomb, people combusted simply by being within the affected areas, and it dealt more damage over all than the nukes.

Why did you animate a c-130 more than a b-29

They wanted to bomb a different location but one of the guys involved in picking a site said his wife loved cherry blossoms there as they had visited in the 20s for their honeymoon. Cant remember the name but it was saved

*Fun fact:* in addition to the information within this video, which is all true of course, the Ryōan-ji (pronounced “rai-oh-anne-jee”) temple garden in Kyoto, Japan was the intended target of the atomic bomb dropped on Nagasaki, Japan during World War II. The American Secretary of State Harry Stimpson, who visited the Ryōan-ji temple garden during his travels throughout the world, lobbied against the bombing of this garden and other gardens around it located in Kyoto as he had appreciated the gardens beauty and significance to Japanese culture. Because Stimpson was steadfast in his opposition to the bombing of the Ryōan-ji Temple garden, the site was spared with Nagasaki substituted as Nagasaki was considered an equally suitable target

Also, one of the main U.S shot callers on where they were going to drop the bombs went against tokyo because they had a honeymoon in Tokyo.
