The film explores the challenging theory put forward by Dr. Iain McGilchrist in his ground-breaking 2009 book entitled The Master and His Emissary. His theory offers readers an explanation as to why our modern society has become so driven by data, targets, models and consumerism. His explanation for that is embedded in his ideas about how the two hemispheres of the brain pay attention to the world in two different ways. His theory addresses the same concerns as connected baby, in that he argues our society needs to place much greater emphasis on human connection and emotional experience.

The Premiere of the film took place on 4th September 2019 in Glasgow, with an audience of 200. We were delighted to have Dr. Iain McGilchrist with us as guest speaker. This video captures the Audience Q&A conducted after the screening, chaired by David Cameron, with questions directed to Dr. McGilchrist. The topics covered in the discussion ranged from the impact of emotional trauma on brain development to psychiatric diagnostic frameworks to cultural capital.

The Scottish Tour took place across four primary cities of Scotland: Glasgow, Dundee, Inverness and Edinburgh, during September and October 2019. We are grateful to Matter of Fact Media, Canadian producers of the film, for working with us on this tour. We are especially grateful to our four local partners for their support and assistance: University of Strathclyde Laboratory for Innovation in Autism, Dundee & Angus ACES Hub, Inverness College UHI, and Edinburgh College Childhood Practice Team.

Thank you! Good civic spirit at the end too. Anyone who is at an Iain McGilchrist talk has a duty to humanity to record it and put it on youtube.
