A reminder that Epic needed 3 years to add shopping cart and in that time. Steam remade the whole UI, revived demos. the steam deck was released. New game searcher and an interactive recommender based on games you like etc....

epic games is like that kid who your parents always forced you to play with, alone on the sandpit eating his own snot

Epic literally permanently banned me from contacting customer support after I tried reaching out to them about a billing issue on their side. The agent refused to do anything, and I was shadow-banned without warning.

Steam is simply unrivaled in terms of ease of use. At this point I can’t image using something else

The worst is that Epic has been doing that for years straight, like, will they ever learn the lesson that this is an absolutely despicable way of attracting people to your platform? I refuse to think so. Metro, Borderlands, Ooblets, Evil Dead, Darkest Dungeon, Axiom Verge, ans the former three are more egregious though. No wonder I refuse to use Epic Games Store even if the weekly free gamea shtick is neat.

Lack of features aside (which still blows my mind given how long they have had), one of my biggest issues was how quickly (specifically Tim Sweeney) went from "We want to be a competent competitor to Steam" to "We will do whatever is necessary to destroy Steam". I'm all for competition (especially if it gets Valve to fix things), but I have 16 years of amazing memories on Steam and saying you basically want to take them down doesn't quite inspire me to spend money on your storefront.

Google Play Games has more features than Epic Games Store does

lets not forget about the completely white payment screen which completely contrasts the colours of the launcher

I remember when Epic said they would stop buying so many exclusives if Steam matched their revenue split. They said with a straight face that they will be less competitive when others get more competitive.

Epic games is like that rich kid who is kind of annoying, but you still go to his house sometimes because he has a lot of cool games you can play.

I will give epic credit, if it wasn't for the free games I wouldn't have experienced one of my greatest influences in art and gaming as early as I did - Nuclear Throne

It's insane how much missed potential EGS has. While Steam has been adding more and more features, the only thing that Epic thought about using their billions on is TIMED exclusivity deals. We could've had a legit competitor to Steam but at this point it's nothing more than a glorified Fortnite launcher and game giveaway machine.

I think what's most baffling about Steam is they're the only company that people are glad to see as a monopoly, or at least not worried about it. Competitors enter the scene and people get outright pissed off because it does mean they have to start playing their games all on different programs.

But Steam handles its power so scarily well it's unreal. They could easily start becoming well and truly lazy and hostile to modders but they're not. Maybe my standards for companies are just too low now.

I got an Epic account solely for the free games, I have zero interest in Fortnite, and after a few years of claiming every free game they offered I finally installed the launcher and tried to play something. I want my money back.

5:25 daily reminder that one of the EGS' first selling point was "we will never do sales they take too much off of shmol devs revenue"

I still remember how I was hopeful for Epic making positive changes on the market as i considered the addition of another big player on the market would force both of them to improve. "More competition = more improvement" type of thinking... How wrong i was back then.

Epic offers literally nothing better than Steam did for years, their claim that smaller sale split would make games cheaper was a total lie, genuinely making selling games for smaller devs an actual hustle...
For me the only 2 reasons why you would ever want to visit the store (outside of playing Fortnite) are a slue of free games and exclusives and even then I don't go there.

The only *GOOD* things i can think of is are:
-small indie devs get that crucial boost of cash, ensuring that they can focus on making and improving their games without the fear of going bankrupt in the process
-once the exclusivity is over and the game finally arrives on Steam, i know I'm getting a better product that what Epic users got on launch. Less bugs, more polish, eventual DLC already being added.
Even those "good" things only profit me as a Steam user further down the line.

I just love how Steam seems to *actually* care about gamers, I've never seen a company do something for Linux before (also the Deck is very easy to repair and use it like any other computer, which is really nice). EGS is literally digging their grave like this.

another thing is that the epic store constantly logs you out and it's annoying af.

never had Steam do that to me (though granted, the only times i don't use it are when i'm gone from home for extended periods).
