He tries to recite the same prayer the father did before dinner when he provided them shelter and food.

It was so awesome when Sandor joined up with the brotherhood. He started off a hound but grew into a kind and just man that died knowing he did some real good towards the end of his life.

Night mode in GOT is so immersive, I truly can’t see shit

Sandor understood grief, pain, and rage. For him, the emotion that he shows here, actually apologizing for their deaths (and his own mistreatment of them) - for him it was the equivalent of a more normal person sobbing. He hates that the world is a cold and cruel place, full of men like himself.

It's extra meaningful that it's winter when he does this. To be so remorseful that he's willing to dig a grave when the ground is frozen shows how far he'd come by this time

I love that Thoros figures out what is going on, and grabs a shovel

I love how the writers brought this father and his daughter back, they were representing the simple common folk of Westeros who didn't know much about politics but were affected by it.

I still can't forgive the Hound for what he did to them tho, they were very kind

See how gently he placed their remains in the grave shows how’s remorseful he was.

The Hound looking at what's done to them, feeling remorse and apologizing to them while burying their corpses shows how much he's grown different from his devilish brother and changed for the better thanks to Arya and the Brotherhood without banners... but at the same time his apology is bittersweet, as it won't change what he did: it's way too late to fix his mistake.
Albeit sincere, his regret won't bring them back, for they're dead because of his selfishness. He could only atone by paying respect and letting them rest in peace, shaming himself since he sealed their fate.

Sandor didn't have to rob them, he had a choice and did the wrong one. He knows that.

That's a man whose spent his life angry and for the first time In years he's not. The sadness that comes once the red mist is gone is terrible. I remember how tired i felt.

I remember thinking the "dead men dont need silver" line was funny as hell but then seeing this scene just hit hard😥

He hides it well, but he's probably the kindest, most sensitive person in the Seven Kingdoms. It's his great misfortune to live in a brutal, unjust and cruel world. The only person who ever knew the real Sandor Clegane was Arya and it meant so much to him when she called him by his name just before he went to kill his brother

"We ask the Mother it, I don't remember the rest!"
This moment is heartbreaking, but that line always makes me chuckle!

This could well be the epitaph for all the innocents lost in the game of thrones- an anonymous burial, a half-forgotten prayer, and a quiet apology. Genius writing

Beautiful scene, really loved Sandors character arc

I ask the mother to... fuck it I don't remember the rest
Such a Sandor Clegane thing to do haha, he shows more emotion when being himself than when reciting the proper prayers.

Sincere words are better than memorized prayers

He feels guilt and his way of trying to atone is by giving them a proper burial

For me the hound is the greatest tv character ever.
