How is Thriller number 4? Like really, I don't even care about album sales, but there's never been an album that influenced not only pop music but also pop culture. Everything about Thriller is iconic, the videos, the music, covers, dance, and fashion influenced the culture and also pushed the genre forward. You can't find an artist before MJ who sounded remotely close to him (except for the his soul album off the wall.) But once he started making pop records, there hasn't been a artist in the genre who hasn't been influenced by him. Every pop artist nowadays just does there best impressions of MJ.

For all of you complaining about Thriller being #4, I too thought it would be #1. But when you think about it, the top two choices did help inspire other artists to make today's music, they were the pioneers of a new sound and therefore their albums were more revolutionary. Yes MJ's will always be the best album, but you still have to acknowledge the first leaders.

#1: this is a pop album list, why is there rock albums?
#2: thriller should be #1, argue with me.
#3: why is mariah careys first album on honorable mentions? Even though it was really succesful, her album music box was her best selling album!
