Dirac Live version 2 software, redesigned

August 2018 I published a video on Dirac Live, the initial version, and liked it a lot. The software was a bit nerdy and looked rather dated. But that was ok. It got the job done. But now there is version 2 and it looks a lot better.

I’m looking forward to hearing more about the streamer with Dirac that you’re working on.

Thank you for your efforts, brilliant production. I have a question please, In the ‘select arrangement’ option I thought Dirac Live had a selection called ‘Auditorium’ for a multiple seat home cinema?? I only saw chair and sofa?

Hi could you do an in-depth look Audirvana + settings for sox and iZotope 64. To help someone with out a background as a recording engineer to make informed decisions about changes to make with out just guessing ...even Audirvana + manual is very limited in its information and explanations ..and while i have found a forum with some presets to try ..i cant find a good definitive guide to understanding the options and consequences of settings changes to help to get a better idea of how to improve my listening experience
I think you would be the perfect person to help all that use SOX or iZotope 64

Does dirac eliminate or decrease the need for dual subwoofers as far as evening out room nulls and peaks?

Hi, I have a question that nobody seems to know clearly about anywhere. It's about the microphone placement for mesure : How do we set up the microphone if at the listener position my head is against the couch ? On every calibration picture I see, the couch stop at shoulder height. But I don't know anybody who have a couch like that, it's not confortable, and even in cinema there are couch where we put our head against, and continue over the head. So how do we set up the microphone the best ? At ear position against the couch ? Above the couch, or maybe a bit in front the ear position but the same height ? But then I can't see how it would be accurate as if I put myself above or a bit in front my listening position, the sound is not totally the same as it is against the couch. And I find this is very weird to give people calibration software and to not explain them how to set up the microphone correctly lol. I can't count the number of discussion I see on forum about that, and people just give their beliefs about placement but nobody knows the true reality about that for sure.

Again, you provide unbiased review of a product. You have done a wonderful job as always! Thanks so much Hans.

Thank you for this tutorial. I will refer to it after I have had the Atmos/Dirac MDC module installed into my Nad M15HD2 processor

Thanks Hans. I have a problem. I would like to get an avr with dirac live but also would like to keep my stereo listening setup with the same f/l speakers and a more quality streamer->dac->amp combination. In that case the only option i would have would be to get a dsp from.... minidsp i suppose. Would a component from minidsp that costs lets say 900$ would ruin the signal quality that comes from a 2000$ streamer (aries g1), 2000$ dac (mytek or rme adi) connected to a 3500$ amplifier? I however do not want to spend more on a high spec dsp exclusively for dirac as in that case, a better quality avr with integrated streamer (like the nad t777 v3) would be a more cost effective choice and around 4000$ cheaper than the streamer+dac.

A compromise would be to go with something like the allo digione as streamer but would that combined with the dac and dirac minidsp present the same issues?

I'm still waiting for the new stand alone version that is computer, not equipment based. I have version 1 on my small system upstairs.

Fantastic video, superb job, unbiased and easy. Unfortunately my Arcam only allows 1 Dirac profile, so I don’t have the option to use one settings for movies and another one for music

Hi Hans - nice video, but can you tell something about how to set the gain on the microphone - the slider next to the master output?

I think a little look at the minidsp shd serie would be fair, and why not Acourate too?

good work Hans! Very informative. I have an Arcam AV860 and do not like the room correction of it.
What do you think about Intel Nuc as htpc with Dirac software( 2 or 8 channel). I can imagine it to work on stereo level, but what about multichannel with netflix ?

Beste Hans. Alvast bedankt.
