What Car Warranty Company Is Worth It

Welcome to @BuckleysAutoCare
Many of you have been asking "What's the best company out there for car warranties. Well, there is one in particular that's "the best". However, I share a few here that I have personally worked with and they DID take care of the policy holder very well. One thing to remember. For a warranty company to be recommended by a repair shop, that company has to be a good partner in the whole transaction. Meaning, they pay what we as repairers would charge any other person for the same repair. When they don't, the difference is paid for by the policy holder and that's YOU. So be aware of all the nuances of a warranty plan.

By the way, this is all very basic. There's no graphics, no picture of me. Nothing but some warranty referral sites and tips to go by.

What you MUST KNOW about warranty companies:

They are not going to cover 100% of ALL REPAIRS

These plans SUBSIDIZE the cost of repairing your vehicle

YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE for ALL testing BEFORE a claim can be made on your behalf. If the warranty company states that it’s not covered, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE for paying ALL testing Fees.

Additional fees such as SUBLETS, Hazmat or Shop Supplies Fees are your responsibility. The repair shop has the right to charge these items and the warranty company DOES NOT PAY for them UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES

DO NOT BUY A WARRANTY PLAN knowing you have a major issues already going on with your car and YOU THINK it’s going to be covered. NO - it will be denied. There are waiting periods for up to 3 months or so many miles BEFORE coverage begins.

TEARDOWN - Warranty companies will typically insist that the root cause of the breakdown be discovered BEFORE they decide if they are going to cover the repair. If the engine develops a “noise” that is severe, they will ask the shop to tear the engine down to expose the damaged part AND THEN DECIDE IF they will cover it. IF THEY DON’T, you are responsible for the cost of tearing the engine down. That’s called “DISCOVERY”.

USED CAR WARRANTIES - SHORT TERM - 30 DAYS
Most used car lots will sell a vehicle with a 30 day warranty - Not worth the paper it’s printed on. If the engine blows up within 30 days, MAYBE there could be some relief. But typically, most vehicles are sold “AS IS, WHERE IS” that puts the burden of getting the car fixed on you. Most car lots will simply take the car back and flip you into something else.

READ THE FINE PRINT THREE TIMES! - There are exclusions everywhere and you must know them!

Oil and Maintenance Records - I have seen it time and time again - You need to have records of EVERY OIL CHANGE and you must be within manufacturers schedules to even be considered for coverage and relief. That goes for your DIY’ers as well. If you don’t have receipts and a log book for your DIY oil changes, they will deny coverage.

People, do yourself a favor. Instead of sending your money to these scammers, take that payment and put it in a separate account, every month. Before you know it you have a substantial amount of money in there and if your car breaks down you can use that money and you don’t even have to ask anyone for it, you don’t have to argue about it, you don’t have to beg for it etc.

The only extended car warranty I would be interested in is one with zero exclusions. No loop holes, no exclusions, everything is covered 100%.

These aren't warranties, they are service contracts. They fall into the consumer realm of "ignorance scams" that go after elderly/low income/low intelligence people...the kind of people you see hammering away at slot machines at your local reservation casino.
Endurance (the worst one?) called me once. I asked this question: "Are you comfortable offering me a policy given that I'm an attorney?" After consulting with his supervisor, the young man answered, "We are not. Have a good day, sir."
I'm not an attorney.

Great advice. I was a service advisor/writer. Maintenance documentation is key. Er timely maintenance 😊.
It also applies to tire mileage warranties from the tire company.
They'll want historical info on rotation history and alignments ( especially at tire installation).
Thanks for taking time to inform 👍.

At least you mention a few companies that do what they say. Mostly.

A quick note about receipts. As well as keeping every receipt for all maintenance, repairs, recalls, etc. Create a backup of the receipt. Scan it into your computer and store the image on your HDD or SSD. Then create an offsite backup on the cloud or on a flash drive that you keep elsewhere. If you lost the paper work you can download the electronic copy. In fact scan the warranty papers as well.

Carmax coverage is very good. Ultimately, it's up to you i decided coverage up to 150k miles was a good idea, considering that my engine is a twin turbo ecoboost. Things happen. I just had to do a full timing job on my expedition..i did that job myself. But these newer engines are engine out only i dont have a way of doing that at home .

The answer all this is very simple. Maintain your vehicle and maintain a savings account. Common sense zero premiums.

I take care of all 6 of my cars and had receipts for oil and other products. Endurance warranty literally told me it’s just proof of purchase I could have taken it back to the store.

Very nice video and "What you must know" page!
I give rides for hire, driving a nicer high-mileage vehicle. I take good care of it; most riders can't believe how far it's traveled!
I bought it used--with most of its original warranty intact--just before car prices spiked. It's been a real champ for several years.
Within the past year, I began paying for an aftermarket coverage plan to see me through my last couple of working years before retirement.
I'm not looking for bumper-to-bumper coverage; just trying to hedge against the most costly component failures.

You mention that USAA is a good company, however I see that its provider is “Endurance” - yet you do not mention Endurance in your video. Can you explain why? Thanks.

I have an extended service contract through the manufacturer. The list of exclusions is relatively small including things like snowplow equipment, clutches on a manual transmission, lenses, trim, glass, upholstery as well as a few other things.

In the last 6 month they have paid out for a new water pump and thermostat, then a couple of months later the brake interlock and turn signal stalk.

I've owned since new. It is 11 years old now has about 125K miles. I'm happy with it, but I plan on keeping it another 10-20 years, which should, in theory, be covered.

I'd never buy a 3rd party extended service contract.

All any insurance really gives you is standing to sue. Hopefully it won’t come to legal action by the policy holder, but it frequently does. The problem with car repair insurance is that filling suit isn’t worth it due to the relatively low dollar amounts involved. By all means start your own insurance fund as others here have advised, period.

WARRANTIES CAN ONLY BE ISSUED BY THE VEHICLE MANUFACTURERS!!!

Wow, I live in South Africa, not the economic centre of the universe and here we have car warranty companies that actually do work. We have the AASA, Bosch and a few others, One of my employees just had a claim for $2900, and they not only covered the initial fault, but when it recurred because some other part was involved, they covered that too. He was as happy as heck, here there seems to be a culture aimed at helping more than just making money. Sounds strange as I type this because here we also look at these companies with suspicion as a rule.

No there not . If I didn't have an extended warranty id be out of pocket 10k for new Turbo and timing gears. It only cost me 4k for the warranty..well worth it!!

Got screwed by Endurance warranty. If you do any repairs yourself they will deny because you are not a licensed tech. Screw them

If a warranty sells you a policy they should honor, it no questions asked if they are concerned about oil changes and other maintenance records, they should verify that before selling you the policy. In fact, anything that may be a factor in your claim being paid should be fully disclosed and dealt with before they sell you a policy.

They wouldn't sell them unless they made a profit. They make a profit by paying less in claims than they charge for the contract. That should tell you what you need to know.
